Executive Director's Message

PAWPRINT Greetings Husky families,

Congratulations to the class of 2014!  The graduation ceremony was filled with so much love and joy, and the words "sweet," "kind," and "nice" were used over and over again as mentors shared stories of how the class of 2014 have changed our lives.  We will miss you and your families dearly, and we hope that you will come back to visit us and spread your love and kindness to every Summit Prep student. Thank you for choosing us as your high school.  Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be a part of your lives.

We wish everyone a happy summer, and we encourage everyone to rest, relax, and rejuvenate.  You deserve it!

Thank you for all of your support this year!  We look forward to seeing everyone back in August!

The Summit Prep Faculty

P.S. Summit Prep will be open from 9-5 everyday, and we will be sending a few mailings home over the summer.

Internships During Expeditions

PAWPRINT internshipsHey 12th grade parents!  Encourage your son or daughter to consider an internship for their 12th grade Expedition!

  • Internships are one of Summit Schools' many unique programs that help prepare young people for success in the 21st century.
  • An internship provides your student with an invaluable experience:  the chance to learn how to navigate the adult work world and to explore a possible career field.
  • Research has shown that students view their potential differently after an internship experience and feel much better prepared to make decisions about their future.

Linda Stevenin will be joining with Kathryn Hopkins this year to expand our current program and offer internships at both our Redwood City and San Jose schools.

Interested in learning more about this opportunity?  Have your student send an e-mail by June 30, 2014 to Kathryn Hopkins at khopkins@summitps.org.

If not, it's not too late! Sign up for a summer program, take a community college course, plan some college visits, do an internship or some volunteer work, and/or study for your ACTs and SATs. Make the most of these summer months!

SPOT

PAWPRINT spot We want to thank the many volunteers it took to accomplish all the tasks at school this year. Your effort has paid off, and our children are one year closer to the goal.

spotmeetingThe SPOT held its last meeting of the school year on Thursday June 5. We had over 30 parents in attendance - including the newest members from the Class of 2018. We reviewed the SPOT structure and all of its roles and responsibilities. We incorporated feedback from many folks to continue to evolve SPOT. With its added responsibilities of raising funds next year, we have identified the following top 3 goals for SPOT:

1. Create a SPOT leadership team with clearly defined roles and responsibilities - expanding from the current grade level ambassadors.
2. Increase Parent Engagement and involvement
3. Track, report and follow up on parent commitments (volunteer hours and donations)

We will host another meeting on Tuesday, June 17 at 7 p.m., and will repeat what we discussed on June 5, for those who missed the meeting and want to hear more about SPOT. A summary of the highlights will be sent to the parent email groups.
