11th Grade College Update: ACT and SAT Testing

For those of you registered for the June ACT and SAT, here are some tips to remember for your exams:

  • Make sure to plan ahead for transportation to arrive early to your exam location. Remember that the SATs/ACTs are not held at Summit Prep.
  • You must bring the following to the exam: printout of your admission ticket, photo ID, multiple #2 pencils, approved calculator
  • We suggest you also bring: a snack and a water bottle, an extra layer of clothing to stay comfortable.
If you aren't satisfied with your results, know that you can retake these exams in the fall before submitting your college applications. We always recommend taking the exams at least twice. You can register for the fall exams at www.act.org and www.collegeboard.org.

Upcoming Fall Testing Dates:
ACT - September 13, 2014; October 25, 2014
SAT - October 11, 2014; November 8, 2014

All Grades: Summer Programs

How you spend your summers can make a major positive impression on colleges and scholarships organizations - or not! Do you have a constructive, productive, college prep plan for summer? If not, it's not too late! Sign up for a summer program, take a community college course, plan some college visits, do an internship or some volunteer work, and/or study for your ACTs and SATs. Make the most of these summer months!

You can find out more about summer opportunities and so much more at the Summit Public Schools College Readiness website. Visit college.summitps.org today!

SPOT

PAWPRINT spot We want to thank the many volunteers it took to accomplish all the tasks at school this year. Your effort has paid off, and our children are one year closer to the goal.

The SPOT held its last meeting of the school year on Thursday June 5. We had over 30 parents in attendance - including the newest members from the Class of 2018. We reviewed the SPOT structure and all of its roles and responsibilities. We incorporated feedback from many folks to continue to evolve SPOT. With its added responsibilities of raising funds next year, we have identified the following top 3 goals for SPOT:

1. Create a SPOT leadership team with clearly defined roles and responsibilities - expanding from the current grade level ambassadors.
2. Increase Parent Engagement and involvement
3. Track, report and follow up on parent commitments (volunteer hours and donations)

We will host another meeting on Tuesday, June 17 at 7 p.m., and will repeat what we discussed on June 5, for those who missed the meeting and want to hear more about SPOT. A summary of the highlights will be sent to the parent email groups.

Some key positions being recruited for - and hours can be earned in the summer.
