Executive Director's Message
|
Dear Husky Families: New Family Brunch was a success!
This Saturday, we welcomed the incoming 9th grade class to our wonderful Summit Prep community. We are so excited to begin this journey with them and build personal relationships with each family. Thank you to all of our current teachers, students, and parents who joined us on Saturday to welcome our new families. We are so grateful to have such wonderful parents who support our mission, embrace our diversity, share our values, and embody our core characteristics: compassion, respect, integrity, responsibility, courage, and curiosity.
Please complete our parent survey!
We are excited to launch our 2013-2014 Parent Survey!
At Summit Public Schools, we are constantly gathering information to enrich the experience of you and your child(ren) at Summit. Your feedback is critical to our success.
Please take 5 minutes to respond to our short survey here to let us know what's important to you, what we're doing well, and what areas you suggest for improvement.
We want to hear from all of our parents because every member of our community is important. We are aiming for a 100% participation rate!
The survey will be open until Friday, June 6th. We will share our school's results with you by the end of June, and we look forward to working closely with you during the next school year to continue to strengthen our Summit community.
We appreciate your time and feedback. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Finishing the year off strong!
Thank you to everyone who helped make these last two weeks of standardized testing run so smoothly! Our students were able to show what they know, and support one another in building strong skills and habits. With just three weeks of regular instruction left, we ask all families to support our students in spending every minute at school and at home working towards growing as a learner. We've almost reached our fundraising goal!
We are just $20,000 shy of our fundraising goal! We are making one last push towards 100% participation with a mentor group challenge! If we have all families donate $50 each, we will hit our target! Please be on the lookout for a donation envelope from your student. The first mentor group to reach 100% participation will win an ice cream party from the school! We would love to treat every single student with a refreshing summer treat! Final Expeditions
Our final Expedition will begin on Tuesday, May 27th. We are very excited to showcase the learning and growth our students have made so please join us for the special events we have planned for this week. More information can be found here: Spanish version: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6EOuaY7mOjOZUJwRWUxUjFzc0E/edit An Evening with Diane Tavenner, CEO of Summit Public Schools
As the year comes to a close, Diane Tavenner will be circling back to our parent community to continue the conversation started when she visited our school earlier in the Fall. We hope that you will join us for another dialogue about our school and our vision to prepare our students for success in college, career, and life. Diane will join us on Tuesday, May 27th, at 6:30 p.m. here at Summit Prep. Respectfully, Penelope, Patti, and John

Career Day
|
Career Day - As our kids head to college and select a discipline, it is equally vital for them to hear what these disciplines can lead to. Summit Prep will be hosting a career day on Wednesday, May 28 (other campuses have their own days). This event is open to parents or to your extended network. We will set up professionals from similar fields in the same classroom to provide a rich discussion opportunity for the students. If you have contacts in the community who are good candidates to come and speak, please forward this email to them. The form below should be used to capture your intent on participating in the event. If you have questions, please contact Wren Maletsky at wmaletsky@summitprep.net.
A few goals for the day:
1. Students are inspired by your career and motivated to pursue it
2. Students learn about your career path and have a realistic understanding of what it means to succeed in your profession
3. Students interact with professionals that may provide internships or are willing to offer work life experiences to Summit students. We are actively seeking partners for our internship program!
Below is a sample of the questions we will ask you to share with our students:
1. What do you do?
2. How do people get into this field? Has it changed from when you started?
3. What does your day-to-day work look like?
4. What are some exciting things about your job? What challenges do you face?
5. What characteristics do people have that are successful in your career
