Executive Director's Message

PAWPRINT Greetings Husky Families:

We would like to highlight the growth and progress our students have made after one week of Expeditions!  Sofia Pintor, 9th grader, shares her experience in the Visual Arts Expedition here: https://vimeo.com/93100575.   Mr. Zamora, Summit Prep's former Office Manager and current SPS Communications/Development expert, is leading an exciting mural Expedition to highlight Summit Prep's mission, vision, values, and beliefs through the arts!  Here are two videos that capture the progress our students are making: https://vimeo.com/93100762 and https://vimeo.com/93100761.  We cannot wait for the finished product to be featured in our building!

Come support our students at our Casino Night Auction!
We are so excited to see many of you at our upcoming Casino Night and Silence Auction!  Our wonderful Community High School Foundation fundraiser will be a great time to indulge in all of the wonderful things that Vegas has to offer:  catered cuisine, live gambling, and adult beverages!  Please join us for a fun night of partying for a cause -- to support our amazing teachers and students!  We'll see you Saturday, May 3rd, 6 p.m. at the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center in Menlo Park.   If you have any questions or would like to help out, please email: chsf@summitprep.net.

Summit's College & Career Ready Model Featured in National Magazine

We are excited to share with you that our schools are featured in the Christian Science Monitor Weekly's cover story: Blended learning revolution: Tech meets tradition in the classroom.

The news article follows schools, including two Summit schools, from across the country that are focused on re-imagining the school experience for students to ensure they are able to be successful in college and career.  Referred to as 'blended learning' by the larger education field, these schools leverage the power of technology to:
  • Provide teachers the time to focus on what is most needed for student learning, including coaching and mentoring students and facilitating really rich learning experiences that develop critical thinking,  problem-solving, speaking,  listening and many more invaluable skills.
  • Support students to learn in ways that are personalized for them and meet their needs.
  • Ensure that students, parents and families have access to all of the learning resources, tools and feedback they need to be successful at all times.
The Christian Science Monitor visited two Summit schools - Summit Denali in Sunnyvale and Summit Shasta in Daly City - and spoke with school leaders, students, teachers and parents, who all graciously shared their personal experiences from this past school year.

We encourage you to read the article and reach out with any questions you have. Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Penelope, Patti, and John

Silent Auction and Casino Night

PAWPRINT auctionSummit Parents and Friends:  Invitations for the Silent Auction and Casino, being held on Saturday, May 3, 6 p.m. at the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center in Menlo Park, were mailed to you.  If you have not received your invitation, please contact chsf@summitprep.net and another one will be sent to you.  We hope you'll all be able to attend! The point of the Silent Auction and Casino is to raise money to operate the school.

We are looking to auction off yummy desserts in the first ever - Cake Walk (or Run) for the individual tables.
If you can't attend the auction but still want to give back to the school, here is a concrete way to do so.  We need about 15 desserts that can serve at least 10 people. You can bake (or purchase) that outstanding "to die for dessert."   Some suggestions could be angel food cakes, crème Brule, fancy cookie platter, fresh fruit tart, Grand Marnier Cheesecake, etc. The more elegant, the higher the bids for your dessert will be.  Please send Barbara Pedersen (bap2@pge.com) if you are able to donate.  She will contact you with drop off details.

Critical College Information - May 1 Deadline

PAWPRINT Even though the application process is coming to a close, the next month includes many important deadlines and steps to make sure students are set up for success in the fall. Here is a checklist of family action steps:

1. Compare financial aid packages to make your most informed decision. You can find many comparison worksheets on the web, including these
2. Follow the instructions of your college of choice to make sure they receive your student's commitment to attend no later than May 1 (the national deadline, after which college revoke "unaccepted acceptances" and make offers to their waitlisted students).

3. Follow the instructions carefully for orientation, registrations, housing, etc., at your college of choice. These are often "first-come, first-served" opportunities, so working on them as soon as possible is important!

If you have any questions about these items, please check in with your child's mentor.

PAWPRINT Volunteers Needed!

Teacher Appreciation Week: May 5-9

Every year we take one week to celebrate the faculty and staff. Like years before we are assigning each grade a day to host a faculty luncheon. We have asked the staff and they really enjoy the wide array of delicious home made meals. The lunch is for all the Summit faculty (about 34 of them). Grade level ambassadors will be in touch with volunteers to make this week a success. Sign up to volunteer for:
New incoming families are being invited to a New Families Brunch on May 17th. There are still a lot of volunteer spaces which need filling.  To participate in this event, please go to: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0948AAAF2AA2FD0-newfamily - we'll need your participation in terms of brunch items, or just your presence overall, to welcome the families.
