Executive Director's Message

PAWPRINT Dear Husky Families:

Summit Prep Wins First Place!

Congratulations to Jacyn Schmidt, Liam Isaacs, Sage Kurnie, Jeremy Ezrin, Anna Kubicka, Tom Chu, and Hunter Kaufman for winning first place in the High School of the Future design competition!  We are so proud of your successful collaboration and your leadership!  As first place winners, they have earned a $2,000 scholarship for their team, and they will be traveling to Georgia in May to present at the Interface Educational Summit.  See this website for further information on the competition: http://www.futurehighschool.org/contest-information.html.

Reminder: Donation Matching Opportunity!

We wanted to send a friendly reminder that one of our Husky families has generously offered to double all monetary donations we receive from now until April 30th, up to $10,000!  We are so grateful for their support, and we feel blessed to have a family embrace our mission to provide a rigorous, college-prep academic program for all of our students.  Thank you for supporting our teachers and students, and joining in our quest to provide equitable access to a high-quality education for all students, regardless of their previous preparation or background.  If you have yet to give this year, now is the time to double your donation!  If you have already given this year, please consider giving again to double your donation!  You may mail a check to the school or use our donate link here: http://summitps.org/involved/donate.

Community Time with Ms. Ching's 9th Grade Mentor Group

This week during Community Time, Ms. Ching's mentor group had an engaging discussion about what it means to possess a growth mindset -- the belief that one can always improve over time.  Edgar, a 9th grade Husky, explained that having this attitude in his academic life is the difference between "being good at one thing versus being good at many things."  The mentor group agreed and shared that "we should have a growth mindset about many things because that means [we] can eventually be successful at many things!" Students continued to analyze the relationship between understanding one's ability to grow in all areas as a learner, and the reason why cognitive skill development is the key to college and career success.  One student shared that "it's way more important to develop cognitive skills over content so we can be successful at many different things."

Community Time is an opportunity for our mentor groups to bond and build a sense of belonging here at Summit. Students engage in personal reflection to understand how they learn and how they can build the habits of success needed to be a responsible citizen in our society. It is so wonderful to see our students engage in thoughtful discussions around what it takes to be successful in college, career, and life, while exercising effective communication strategies with one another. We are proud of the growth they make every single day.

PAWPRINT Help Students Raise Funds.  We have two ambitious young women who participate in a program called Ignite. This program exposes young women to the world of politics and leadership, and they're taking a trip this summer to Washington D.C., where they will meet with congresswomen and policymakers. Two of our Summit students underwent a selective process and have been chosen to be among 25 young women nationwide to participate. They are getting creative about how to pay the trip fee of $600, and would so appreciate your support to help get them to the White House! (Thank you for helping them to raise this money by April 10!)  Please click on the links below to support them and learn more about them and the program Ignite.
