Volunteer(s) needed! We need volunteers to wash and dry four bins of blankets which were used for the Balanced Living course. They can be picked up from Room 13 on Wednesday, February 26. They must be returned no later than Friday, February 28 at Noon, so they can be used at the next school. Please contact Kelly Shannon (kshannon@summitps.org) to coordinate.
Teacher and Classroom Supplies Wishlist gets easier!
We are extremely grateful for the continued support the parent community has given to the multiple requests for supplies for classes and/or general use. We have created an Amazon wishlist under "Summit Prep Parent Group" (search for this name under Amazon Wishlists). Ordering from Amazon is not required, but it gives you the quantity that is requested, and a nice visual of what the specific item looks like. Ordering from Amazon, from the wishlist will get the item shipped directly to school. Check it out: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/ref=cm_wl_search_2?ie=UTF8&cid=A35EDL0RHM64MM.
Of course, shopping at Amazon is even better if you start off from our parent website: http://summitspot.org/ - and clicking on the Amazon logo.

Study Trips
|
We need drivers for the upcoming grade level Study Trips. This trip is always a highlight of the Summit program, and one where over the years both students and parent drivers build lasting relationships. You can sign up directly here (and the grade level coordinator will reach out to you) - bit.ly/1ffbc3A. Please make note of the specific days your grade is going on this trip: There is a collection bin at the front desk, where you may turn in your paperwork by grade level. If you have already driven on prior trips, we may have your information on-file (but it may have to be updated). Please let the grade level planning coordinator know.

Wednesday, February 26, 2014, 7 - 8:30 p.m.
Sequoia High School MPR
Adolescence is a time when teenagers try on new roles, new clothes, and new identities. Join us for a thought-provoking evening that explores gender and gender identity.
Straightlaced is a powerful documentary that looks at the ways that societal pressures around gender and sexuality define American teens.
Coming of age today has become increasingly complex and challenging - Straightlaced offers both teens and adults a way out of anxiety and fear, and points the way toward a more inclusive, empowering culture. The film showing will be followed by a panel discussion and Q & A with students and faculty. Refreshments will be available in the MPR.
Woodside Parent Education Series"Why Willpower Matters" with Kelly McGonigal, Ph.D., Stanford University
Thursday, February 27, 2014, 7 - 8:30 p.m.
Woodside High School MUR
Is willpower in the mind or in the body? What motivates people to change? How much control over our thoughts and feelings do we really have, and what are the healthiest ways to regulate them?
Health psychologist and Stanford University lecturer Dr. Kelly McGonigal understands willpower, and her work helps families improve habits, cure procrastination, find focus, and manage stress. She shares cutting-edge research into the neurodevelopment of adolescents, along with valuable strategies or "willpower boosts" to give parents tools to conquer common self-discipline challenges and establish an effective model for improving self-control in children. Dr. McGonigal's lectures inspire parents and students in the U.S. and around the globe!
Kelly McGonigal is the author of The Neuroscience of Change; The Willpower Instinct: How Self-Control Works, Why It Matters, and What You Can Do to Get More of It; and Yoga for Pain Relief. McGonigal received a Ph.D. in psychology from Stanford University.
