Message from the Executive Director, Penelope Pak

PAWPRINT Greetings Husky Families!

Thank you so much for your generous donations and outpouring of support for our community members who have lost their home.  We are touched by your compassion, and we are so grateful that our entire school community has embraced our "Leave No Husky Behind" motto.  We also want to thank the alumni, Everest, and neighboring high school and middle school families who have donated to our cause.  Thank you for spreading the word and reaching out to as many supporters as possible to help our community members rebuild.  We are amazed by how many people have contributed to our efforts.

Many have asked to receive more information regarding the age and gender of the children.  The family has one 7-year-old boy, one 12-year-old boy, one 16-year-old boy, and one 18-year-old girl.  If you would like to bring additional items, please feel free to drop them off at the front desk between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  We will continue to provide updates and "wish list" items in the coming weeks.

In addition, one of our wonderful parents has offered to host a 1.5 hour yoga class at Summit Prep and donate all proceeds to the family in need.  Please stay tuned for a date and time.

Thank you again for your support.

With much gratitude,
Penelope, Patti and John

PAWPRINT M-A PARENT EDUCATION SERIES - Award-winning Documentary Film: "In 500 Words or Less"
Thursday, February 6, 7 - 8:30 p.m.
M-A Performing Arts Center (PAC)

Going to college is a rite of passage for many American high school students, but the process can be overwhelming: college fairs, SATs, tours, applications. And then there's the personal essay. How does a seventeen year old define herself to total strangers when she's only beginning to discover who she really is? And how can he or she be expected to do it in an essay of 500 words or less?

This honest film is a "must see" for any parent or student starting or looking ahead to the college application process. "In 500 Words or Less" takes you inside the lives of four very different students as they spend their last year with their families trying to figure out who they are and who they want to be.  The documentary serves as a portrait of four of the nearly 1.5 million families who go through this process each year. While race, geography and socio-economic status affected how they got here, their stories converge as they all juggle acceptance, rejection, decision-making and letting go.

"In 500 Words or Less" is highly recommended by NACAC, the National Association for College Admission Counseling, and featured at a recent national conference.

Ticket Registration: https://in500wordsorless2014ma.eventbrite.com/.

Registration is FREE and Parent Education Series events are sponsored by the M-A PTA and the Sequoia Healthcare District.  A great family event! Parents, students, and SUHSD community members welcome.

For more information, please contact Charlene Margot, Parent Education Series Program Director, at cmargot@csmconsulting.net or (650) 868-0590.
