The 11th Annual Summit Camping Trip was a wonderful success, thanks to the 118 parents who drove to or from or both ways to the campsite. We had a record 25+ parents stay overnight to prepare dinner/breakfast and snacks (and spy on the Talent Show!) This fun and exhausting experience is a wonderful way to begin our school year, and it can't happen without involved parents. An event like this really needs a village to succeed. Thanks for being part of our "village!" Many thanks to the parents of incoming freshmen, who jumped in and drove! And, an extra special thanks to Jonathan Borgo who drove a truckful of students AND the tents for our kids! Mark your calendars!- Coffee with the Director -- Monday, September 9 at 8:30 a.m.
- Back to School Night -- Thursday, September 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a special "pre-meeting" regarding college activities for 11th & 12th graders from 6 to 7 p.m. Please take this opportunity to "walk" through your student's Summit schedule and meet their teachers.
Lunch Servers Needed! To speed up the lunch serving process, we are asking for ONE volunteer each day to serve lunch. If you can spare an hour a week on a regular basis, or want to just volunteer every once in a while, please sign up to help us. It's a fast and furious hour of schlepping veggies or fruit...but it's an important job that we need! Sign up by clicking on the link, or cutting and pasting it into your browser! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0949AEAC2AA75-lunch

Meet the Summit Prep Athletic Staff
Summit Prep has a new Athletic Director - Candace Naylor
Candace is the parent of Laurel (junior) and Ella (freshman) here at Summit Prep. She is a Certified Jazzercise Instructor of six years. She teaches classes each week from San Francisco to Sunnyvale. She was the Cheerleading coach at St. Pius Elementary School (Redwood City) for four years and managed the school library for six years. Prior to raising her children, she was a health care administrator for a multi-specialty physician group in San Francisco, which is where she met her husband, Brad, of 17 happy years. Candace is very excited and looking forward to be working with the wonderful student athletes and parents to build a strong Sports program at Summit.
Meet the Coaches
Volleyball - Kate Yarbrough Hi, I am Coach Kate, a Bay Area native celebrating 13 years in the wonderful sport of volleyball. I started playing volleyball as a freshman at Alhambra High School in Martinez and began coaching during my senior year for Diablo Valley Volleyball Club in Walnut Creek. I continued playing at Diablo Valley College and then finished my studies with a Biology degree from UC San Diego. While in college, I moved my playing on to the beach and coached 3 more years for Starlings Volleyball Club. Since receiving my degree, I have worked in environmental education for non-profits in San Diego, San Francisco, and in Guatemala as a volunteer for the Peace Corps. I love teaching, be it sports, music, art, or science and I always learn from each person I work with. My philosophy is about respect and responsibility, getting out what you put in, and I try every day to set that example. I am excited to return for my second year coaching women's volleyball at Summit Prep, and am looking forward to our 2013 season. Go Huskies! Soccer - Steve McCreddin My first events for competitive soccer were playing for Prospect High in Saratoga, CA, from 1968 to 1972. These were the first years the Bay Area had high school soccer. I delight in telling my players it was so long ago, that my shin-guards were made of wood. One of my fun memories of coaching for Summit Prep occurred last year at a game in the Santa Clara Soccer Park. The very old ref looked familiar. In discussion we discovered he was my 1972 Prospect High soccer coach.
I have coached youth in soccer for over 15 years. Much of it with AYSO and with the Redwood City Middle School SAL league in the Spring. I am a lucky individual to have had the opportunity to work with our city's youth for so long. I am San Francisco born. My family traveled here in 1846. My family has resided in Redwood City for 20 years. I am the co-founder of a small engineering/sales company; MC Microwave Inc, established 1984.
I strive to maintain several ideals in working with young adults. Positive reinforcement, lots of praise, and good sportsmanship, are what we at Summit Prep work to model. I am very lucky to have a excellent assistant coach, Russ Yates. Stanford Concessions Here is the Stanford Concession Sign Up Genius link - www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0949AEAC2AA75-stanford/4509308
Summit Sports is calling all students and a few parents to volunteer to work the Stanford Football games concessions. Each Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball and Baseball athlete is required to sign up for 2 events. These events raise 50% of our sports budget. Without these funds we would not be able to have Summit Sports. Our first event is on September 7, Stanford vs San Jose State. Please support Summit Sports and sign up today!
