Worship Music
Becky Clegg

I am enjoying Pastor Craig's sermon series on "Potluck Worship." As a musician, I always look at the songs selected for the worship order. I know some folks will look at the bulletin and say, "Great, we are singing one of my favorite songs." Or, "Oh, I love the song that the choir is going to sing today." Do you have favorite hymns or songs that resonate with you when they are sung on Sunday morning? Last Sunday, the choir sang "On Eagles Wings." This is truly a favorite of both my Mom and me. I love the imagery of the song especially because we live in an area where the eagles come every winter. They are so majestic and graceful.

But before these rooms can be put to use they need a fresh coat of paint! Will you lend a hand? We will supply the paint, rollers, brushes, coffee and donuts but we need you to supply the help! Children, 3rd grade and older are welcome to paint with a parent. Childcare will be provided for children 3rd grade and younger of parents helping to paint or assisting with the buildings and ground work party. Saturday, April 30; 9am-Noon. If you are willing to help paint, please email: Lou@1stpresdowntown.org.

Deacon's Doings

Deacon's, First Quarter, 2016

In January the Deacons wrapped up our Christmas Families project and appointed a committee to review and refine congregational participation guidelines.  We're hoping to make participation easier each year.  A poster was hung along the hallway by the office of thank you notes received from some of the families and we hope you had a chance to see them. Because of this congregation, eleven families enjoyed a brighter Christmas.  Thank you!

Also, because of your generosity we've been able to send financial assistance to 1st Pres Children's Camp Fund, make a monthly donation to St. Vincent de Paul shelter, help a church member and her children with some financial assistance so they could overcome some difficulties, donated $200 to Glory Be school for much needed supplies and have continued to collect clothing for the August give-away as well as continue our mission of Knitting For Warmth.  As of March, over 200 prayer shawls have been distributed to people facing enormous health issues and/or stressful times caused by other factors.  Your donations enable the Deacons to purchase the yarn and crosses that are placed on each shawl knitted. The crosses are a way of letting the recipient of the shawl know that as it was knitted and also prayed over that the recipient will find the warmth and love of Christ as they wrap themselves in the warmth of the shawl.  Thank you for your donations, allowing us to purchase the yarn and crosses.

Once again, because of the generosity of this congregation, your Deacons find themselves ready and able to help those in need both as a body of help and as a financial resource as well.  Thank you 1st Pres Congregation!
