Lesson in Humility
Becky Clegg

Well, Super Bowl 50 is in the record books. I don't know if you were a Broncos fan or a Panther fan or you simply didn't watch. We watched but really didn't have a "dog in the fight" so we were fairly neutral. I was probably pulling a little more for Denver than Carolina only because they are closer to us in geographic proximity. I watched with curiosity the media promotion of Cam Newton prior to the Super Bowl and his back and forth banter about his super team and his stature as a Superman. Yes, I know off the field Cam has done quite a bit for the underprivileged youth as does many of the star athletes in the NFL. This is commendable. Cam wants to be a role model for the African-American youth to look up to and emulate. This too is noble.

Hosts Needed for Our Whitworth Fellows

GREAT NEWS! We are hosting four Whitworth Fellows again this summer (June-August for 10 weeks). We are looking for families to host our summer fellows in their homes. Last year the Millers and Thorntons housed our Whitworth Fellows and gave glowing recommendations back to us. Whitworth would like for the homestays to be close to the church because two of the students do not have a car for transportation and would need to walk to and from the church. If you are interested or just need more information before making a decision, don't hesitate to contact Becky Clegg, (208) 667-8446 or email her at beckyc@1stpresdowntown.org. We need to have our host homes lined up by February 29 if possible. Thank you for your prayerful consideration of this unique opportunity to serve our church.
Lent Afternoon Services

During Lent, each Wednesday from 12:15pm until 12:50pm, we will hold lunchtime prayer services in the sanctuary. These are open to the public and are a wonderful time of prayer and meditation. They begin on Ash Wednesday, Feb 10.

Family Promise Fundraiser a Huge Success
Thanks for 'Going Wild' for Family Promise! The 8th Annual Wild Salmon Feast to benefit Family Promise of North Idaho took place February 7, 2016. It was sponsored by three Lutheran Churches in the area - Trinity Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church of the Master, and St. Mark's Lutheran. Over 200 people enjoyed the dinner, featured music, silent and live auctions and a delicious dessert auction. Raised in the evening festivities was a BEST-EVER Net Total of $15,043 in support of FPNI's mission to shelter, feed and provide solutions to families in crisis. Thank you to everyone for 'going wild' for Family Promise of North Idaho, and giving a 'hand up' to families in crisis of homelessness. We couldn't have done it without you!
