Dental Tribulation
Becky Clegg
      Church Administrator
It seems to be my year for costly dental procedures only this past week was Ramona and Obie's turn for dental work. As long as I have owned pets (or they owned me), I have been a firm believer in keeping their teeth healthy through good cleaning practices, proper food, exercise AND annual cleanings by trained veterinary professionals. Ramona and Obie LOVE to have their teeth brushed by me. I sit on the floor with them once or twice a week and have their toothbrush loaded with special toothpaste (poultry flavored). They make brushing their teeth quite easy because they enjoy it so much and wait in line for the other to finish with me. So imagine my chagrin when last week after their annual teeth cleaning, the tech says, "We removed a molar from Ramona and seven teeth from Obie." OUCH!$$$ I think vet teeth cleaning has become more expensive than my own believe it or not! They also told us that our dogs (dachshunds) are in the top five for dental issues along with poodles, yorkies, schnauzers and chihuahuas. Oh lucky me:) It didn't come at a great time with paying taxes this week either. Good thing God provides for us all. Don't get me wrong, I love my doggies to pieces and dental care is part of pet ownership. I'll get over it. In fact, Obie actually seems to be a bit more jolly and happy-go-lucky so all is good. It sometimes seems when it rains, it pours for expenses.

News flash: Things don't always go our way. At least God has instilled that in me for many years. He often reminds me to read John 16:33 when I experience distress, "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world." Wow, what a fantastic promise when I get down or feel troubled or have things go off the rails. Jesus has overcome the world. Thank the good Lord!

God Bless You this week,
Becky

WELCOME NEW 1ST PRES STAFF

The Search Committee has finally made their selection for the part-time receptionist position. We are pleased to welcome the dynamic duo of Laura Koepke and Emily Rogers. They will split the 20hr per week position covering Monday through Thursday for office hours. Be sure to stop by and say "Welcome" to both. The staff is excited to have new additions to our team.

  LAURA KOEPKE & EMILY ROGERS

PROFILES:

LAURA KOEPKE: Laura moved to Coeur d'Alene from Western Washington in 2012 so she could be closer to her two daughters, grandson and niece. Moving is not new to Laura; her father was in the Air Force and she moved every three years until marrying her late husband, Mike, in 1975. Before taking an early retirement in 2012, Laura worked at Central Kitsap School District as a Software Support Specialist/Web Developer /Designer. She recently moved to a new house in downtown CDA and enjoys being able to walk to church and other events. She also enjoys crossword puzzles, knitting, traveling, and spending time with her grandson, Gavin.

EMILY ROGERS: Emily will share the receptionist position with Laura Koepke, assisting the Church Administrator. Emily is a retired elementary teacher, moving here after 41 years in Sitka, Alaska. She has also worked in many clerical positions over the years and several positions in her church. Her husband, Tom, was raised in Coeur d'Alene, and they returned here upon retirement from banking and teaching. They have a son and three grandchildren. Her hobbies include quilting, gardening, golfing, and reading.

HOMESTAY HELP
We are finalizing the homestays for our summer Whitworth fellows. We have a home for the two females (Molly & Hannah) but we now need a homestay for our one male fellow, Josh. He will be working with Lou Pennebaker with the Children & Family program. We'd like to have a home fairly close to church and possibly a home with kids. If you would consider this 10 week commitment from June to mid-August, call the church office at (208) 667-8446 and ask for Becky so she can give you the details.
SPECIAL EVENT

LADIES and GENTLEMEN are Welcome to attend the Women's Association General Meeting, Tuesday, April 21 at 1:00pm in the FPC Gym. TOPS, BOTTOMS & TOES

The Faith, Fun & Friendship ChristCare group is launching a clothing drive called, "Tops, Bottoms, & Toes" to help Lakes Middle School Clothes Closet Program. They urgently need new undies to give to their at-risk students who have to go to school without proper clothing. If you are interested in helping with this important mission, shopping lists for new, unopened items are located on the collection boxes and on the church's website. Cash or check donations are also accepted. Last day to donate is May 3.

SHARE THE JOY

On Sunday, April 19, let's share the JOY of our wonderful First Pres family and bring a GUEST to church. We will celebrate our guests with extra special treats between services that day. Those bringing guests will have special coupons for the member & guest for a specialty coffee drink, Jamba Juice smoothies, or ice cream. Others participating in the JOY will have fruit, muffins and donuts available or you can purchase a specialty coffee or ice cream. You'll want to signup on the cool COUPONS found in our Attendance Pads in each pew. Each GUEST will want a COUPON and each CHURCH MEMBER who brings a GUEST will need a COUPON. We will also serve Starbucks coffee all morning for free. You'll definitely want to be part of this joyful energy!

BREAKFAST ANYONE?

LET'S GO OUT WITH A "BANG"! Mark your calendars for the last and final Jolley/Keefer ChristCare Breakfast on Sunday, April 26 from 9:45am-11:00am. After lots of discussion and prayer we have decided that after 11 years of serving breakfast, it's time to hang up our aprons and move onto other projects. However, we are so excited about our last breakfast fundraising project! Lou Pennebaker, our Children & Family Director, has been doing amazing things with our Sunday School program. The number of children attending has risen dramatically. The programs in place are fantastic! Along with this, Lou has some plans to "spruce up" the second floor Sunday School area and we want to help her financially be able to do so! Come enjoy a fantastic breakfast of crepes, eggs, Swedish pancakes, sausage, and more. Enjoy a wonderful time of fellowship and give generously to support the Sunday School and the precious children that are the future of our church! We look forward to breakfast together on the April 26th! Let's make this last one a great one!

PER CAPITA presbyterian logo

What is "per capita"? It is merely our share of helping to pay for Presbytery's 2015 expenses. All Presbyterian churches in our area make these annual contributions to Presbytery. Each active member of our church is asked to contribute $37.00. When you received your offering envelopes, the first envelope is marked "per capita" to make your offering easier. If you have questions, call Erica Waterman at the church office.
