Best in Show
Becky Clegg
Church Administrator
I enjoy watching the Westminster Dog Show every year. But can someone please tell me why a dachshund NEVER wins Best in Show? Yes, I'm biased when it comes to doxies. Everyone who sees a dachshund usually smiles or laughs so they are certainly an enjoyable dog. They are confident and headstrong (but too much so in the case of my Ramona). Once our vet even said that Ramona was "regal-looking". Doesn't that deserve Best in Show? They are part of the Hound Group because of their legacy to assist hunters in England to catch badgers. They would dig out the badger holes and go down under to flush out the prey. Doesn't that deserve honorable mention? Would you go down in a badger hole? I certainly wouldn't. I had a badger actually ram my little truck bumper many, many years ago but I digress According to one website, there are 8 popular breeds that have never won Best in Show. AKC ranks dachshunds as #8 in the top 20 popular breeds. They have actually won BEST in the Hound Group several times but NO Best in Show. Another website highlighted the dachshund saying they are "spunky, curious & friendly". Well, they win my vote naturally.

Thank goodness God loves us all and we don't have to win Best in Show to merit His attention or praise or love. He loves us warts and all. Even when we aren't our best, He loves us. Romans 5:8 says, "But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." So it isn't a competition for us to WIN His favor. It's there for the asking. I love the scripture in John 3:16 that gives us the promise, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His ONLY Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." Now that's a solid promise that I can hang my hat on. It's the BEST ever!

God Bless You All,
Becky

EASTER FLOWERS

"Full of beauty, fragrance and life that breaks forth from a lifeless bulb or seed, spring flowers are a wonderful reminder and symbol of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who broke forth from the grave on the first Easter, conquering death so that all who believe in Him might also have new life."

In celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Easter Sunday worshippers are invited to bring fresh flowers of any color or size, cut from the garden or purchased at the store. These flowers will be placed on a wire wrapped cross during the Easter morning worship services. The flowered cross is a beautiful symbol and reminder of the transformation and new life of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

WHAT IS PER CAPITA? presbyterian logo

For those who ordered offering envelopes, you should have received them by now. When you have them in hand, open the cover and the first envelope says "per capita". We've been asked about the Per Capita fee for 2015. We though some folks might like to know what this means.

What is "per capita"? It is merely our share of helping to pay for Presbytery's 2015 expenses. All Presbyterian churches in our area make these annual contributions to Presbytery. Each active member of our church is asked to contribute $37.00. If you have questions, call Erica Waterman at the church office.

HELLO FROM DOWN UNDER
Ann and Terry Krugel send their hellos from beautiful New Zealand. We miss them. They should be home soon!
