 Root Canal
Becky Clegg
Church Administrator

When you saw the title to my blog, what feelings did it conjure up? Have you ever had a root canal? Not something that one would brag about or seek out. Over the past two months I have been trying to "will away" a persistent and annoying pain in my back tooth. I was convinced it would subside if I thought good thoughts, took an aspirin and continued to prayer about it. But sadly, my headaches became worse and every time I ate something or drank a hot or cold beverage, my jaw and tooth would ache and ache. So yesterday I finally gave in and went to the dentist. After touching my tooth with ice and tapping it with a tool which sent me into severe pain, my dentist announced, "Yes, Becky, you need a root canal". Yippee. Sign me up. So today I will endure a root canal and pray for the relief it promises to hold.

It got me to thinking about the body of Christ and what we do when someone who is difficult simulates an aching tooth. We can't say to someone who is being unreasonable that they are no longer the body of Christ since we are many members but one body of Christ according to scripture. In Corinthians 12:14-16 we read, "For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot says, "Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. And if the ear says, "Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body...." We are called to love the body of Christ. But sometimes I find people unreasonable and irrational. My inner self wants to cry out and say, "Really, is this the way Christians behave?" But then I must look at my own behaviors and sometimes I'm a little less than a happy camper, fun to be around person. I'm sure in the past couple months when I was battling my 'tooth headaches' that our staff might have told a few less than glowing stories about me. Yet they continued to love me through my pain and offering prayers of support. I'm grateful for staff and church friends who care deeply and love me 'in spite of' my grouchy days.

Our own bodies are intricately woven together and really quite amazing creations of the Father. God didn't promise us perfect, functioning bodies. We have a variety of infirmities and ailments that can attack at any time. But He did promise through the Body of Christ and the gifts of the Spirit to help each other. The book of Corinthians goes on to say in verse 27 that, "Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it." I'm grateful for the grace within the body of Christ to forgive for grumpy days and also thankful for modern medicine that helps to heal our bodies and yes, even for ROOT CANALS!

God Bless,

Becky

BOLIVIA TEAM REQUEST

The Bolivia Mission team is still in awe of the amazing financial support shown at our auction several weeks ago. It absolutely exceeded our highest expectations!  Unfortunately, we are unable to let our donors know who purchased their donated auction items. If you were one of the recipients of an item that had a specific donor to contact could you please connect with that person(s) within the next few weeks? These generous donors will appreciate knowing who the recipient of their item actually was and will be happy to hear from you. Thank you from the Auction Team!

HELPING OTHERS EWE BY EWE
Each Sunday, after being dismissed from the worship service to the Sunday School ARKade, the children gather in the ARKade Game Room before going to grade-level classes. As part of this gathering, an offering is collected each week. All money given by the children will be used to purchase EWES (female sheep) through Heifer Project Int. for struggling families around the world. Sheep wool can be used to make clothes, or sold for extra income and sheep manure can be collected and used for fertilizer, which improves soil and pasture land. Sheep often give birth to twins or triplets and can graze even the hilliest, rockiest pastures unsuitable for other livestock. All over the world, Heifer partners are raising sheep to advance the cause against hunger and poverty. One EWE costs $120. Heifer Project is recognized as a world leader in using animals to address hunger and poverty through ecologically sound, sustainable agriculture. Learn more at http://www.heifer.org
