Happy New Year!

I cannot believe we are approaching mid-month of January. WOW. Time sure does fly when you're having fun. We have so many neat activities coming up at the church this month and next. It's a shame when snow and ice cause some folks to think twice about coming to church. WE MISS YOU!

Recently when I was outside and it was snowing a good bit, I was watching Obie and Ramona waddle through the snow. Yes, a dachshund has to waddle through the snow due to their low center of gravity. God created dachshunds to be low to the ground for a variety of purposes such as getting badgers (thankfully no badgers reside in our backyard). I'd like to think He enjoys watches my two doxies waddle through the snow...at least, He made them so I can enjoy watching them waddle. So as I drove to work one day after the snowfall and I made my way through the snow, I realized that I 'waddled' or at the very least shuffled through the snow so that I did not fall. Hopefully the good Lord had a smile on His face watching me do the snow waddle.

When I was shoveling a path in the evening to help my doxies find an easier place for their business, I also got to thinking about all the shoveling of snow I have done in my life since growing up and living in Northern Idaho. I enjoy the first shoveling of snow because I love the first snowfall. The snow is fluffy and light and a piece of cake to shovel away from the sidewalks. Then as the snow increases and the snow gets heavier with freezing rain, it's not so much fun to shovel. Maybe it's a metaphor for collecting hurts and transgressions and sin. If I don't forgive and don't "Let Go and Let God" then it's like shoveling a heavy, heavy load of snow. My arms and neck ache and it's generally no fun. It's painful even. But if I let go and turn it all over to God, it's like shoveling a light layer of snow and it all goes away quickly. It also reminds me of the verse in the Old Testament, Isaiah 1:18, "Come now, let us settle the matter, says the Lord, Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow, though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."  Be careful in the days ahead as we experience more snow. We hope you can make your way to church to gather with other members and visitors as we experience a new message series, an Idea Harvest (1/18) and Pirate Sunday (1/25) along with the Annual Congregational Meeting (1/25).

Happy Waddling,
Becky
