National Finals 2013

We have a new National Representative!  Nicole Renard of Kennewick,
Washington became our new Distinguished Young Woman of America on June 29, 2013.  She won more than $39,000 in scholarships after winning category awards in talent and fitness, as well as the top honor.

At Finals, Nicole performed an entertaining jazz dance to the song "Amazing Mayzie" from Seussical the Musical.  She is currently attending Chapman University in Orange County, California and will be pursuing an undergraduate degree in TV Broadcast Journalism.

Nicole is the program's third national winner from Washington following Linda Felber, America's Junior Miss 1964, and Lenne Jo Hallgren Best, America's Junior Miss 1976 (seen here pictured together at the 2014 Distinguished Young Women of Washington state program in early August).

Please visit our website to see  all award recipients from the 2013 National Finals.

Once Nicole was named the Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2013, we had seven America's Junior Miss/Distinguished Young Women National Winners present at National Finals!  We love having everyone come back year after year to share in this sisterhood and serve as volunteers.

Pictured with our 2013 National Winner Nicole Renard (center) are (Left to Right):  Amy Elizabeth Goodman (1991), Kelli Schutz Croyle (2005), Jesika Henderson Harmon (2000), Christina Maxwell (2012), Katye Brock (2011), and Nora Ali (2007).
Distinguished Alumnae Awards

All past participants of the program (at the local, state, or national level- whether they won an award or not) are automatically a part of the Distinguished Alumnae.  Our goal is for all alumnae of this program to feel like they are part of a sisterhood and can relate to other women around the country who have been a part of America's Junior Miss or Distinguished Young Women and had a similar experience.  We collect donations for our Alumnae Fund and, with these, continue to give back to state and local programs and to participants in need.

At the 56th National Finals, the Distinguished Alumnae  awarded the $1,000 Spirit Award to Rachel Tunney of South Carolina.  This award is presented to the member of the Class of 2013 who her classmates voted as the best representative of the spirit of the program, thus making it one of the most sought after awards.  In addition to the Spirit Award, Rachel was named 1st runner up and received category awards in Talent and Fitness.

Alumnae Reunions

With over 40 people in attendance, we had a great time at this year's National Finals Reunion in Mobile.  We gathered at the
Admiral Semmes Hotel on Finals night in anticipation of the new representative being announced later in the evening.  Past national winners, participants from all levels of the program, the Class of 2012 Has Beens, staff, and volunteers all enjoyed reconnecting with each other.  Alumnae involvement and support is so vital to our ongoing success and we appreciate the chance to get together and reminisce.  Please make plans to join us next year in Mobile for the 2014 National Finals Reunion!

If you are interested in hosting a reunion in your part of the country, please contact Erin@DistinguishedYW.org.  We would love to help you make it happen by advertising the details and giving you a list of alumnae in your area.
Donate as Alumnae

This year we set out with a lofty goal of raising $56,000 for our 56th anniversary.  At this point we are almost half way there but need your help to make it a reality.  We are so grateful for every dime that has been given so far and know that this impressive amount is helping us fulfill our goals and give back to others, and for that we say thank you!

Many of you probably used the scholarships you won through the program to help you achieve your educational goals or launch you onto your career path.  What better way to show gratitude and to ensure that other young women have the same opportunities than to give a gift to Distinguished Young Women?   We accept donations through PayPal or a check mailed to the National Office.

Also, for every donation made before August 27, 2013 your name will be entered to win a fantastic Distinguished Young Women merchandise prize package.  All donations from $5 to $5,000 help us get one step closer to reaching our goal and, in turn, impacting more young women than ever before.

Our 2012-2013 donors are being recognized  on our website and we appreciate their support.  All donations received for the rest of this year will be acknowledged in the 2014 National Finals Program Book.

Please email Erin@DistinguishedYW.org with any questions regarding alumnae donations.
