January 2013
Greetings!

Hopefully the year has started well for you. Ron and I personally wish you a wonderful new year filled with happiness, health, love and laughter.

I hope you had a great holiday season and are ready to take on new challenges and opportunities with joy. I traveled to India to spend some time with my parents. A time to reflect, observe, and listen. As parents grow old, children have to become more patient and understanding which can be challenging. That's when you realize how much our parents did for us.

India always brings some emotions in me as I see so much happening there - good, bad and ugly. Sadly the bad and ugly is dominating the nation right now. It is heart breaking to see society change so much. On a positive note though, I saw young people come to the streets with so much maturity and courage. They made themselves heard and moved the nation and the corrupt elements that reside all over India.  I really hope that the youth of the country bring about a change not only in laws and government but also in attitudes.

Let the new year bring hope, justice, and fairness in this world.

In the past year, Almaden Yoga has enjoyed seeing so many yogis come in and practice with love, gratitude and joy. As the new year starts to take shape, we are working on how to bring more and better yoga to you.

A lot is happening in the coming two months so keep your senses open and enjoy our offerings.

30-Day Yoga Challenge - 30 classes in 30 days!
Starts Sunday, January 20th

It is that time of the year when you let go of the past and bring in the new. What happened in the previous year does not matter because the new year is here, and you have another opportunity to start afresh.

Like every year, Almaden yogis get the chance of challenging themselves in their yoga practice. Anyone can be part of this challenge. Make this about your mind and body - allow yourself to open up to the change this challenge will bring in you. Let every class you attend be a reminder of the strength you posses within - a class will just be a vehicle to release that inner strength.

Here is how it works -

1. Remember to convert your membership to unlimited if you decide to be part of this challenge. You can change your membership once the 30 days are over.

2. You have to take one class everyday. If you miss a class, then two the next day and so on. If you travel and attend a class somewhere else, then make sure to bring the payment receipt. All yoga classes matter.
3. The front desk staff and our system will keep track of your challenge. Make sure, as always, to sign-in when you attend a class.
4. You have to complete each class.

So what are you waiting for....... put your name on the chart and let's get going.

Recipe of the Month

Let 2013 be about eating and feeling healthy. Keep checking our Facebook page for weekly updates.

One of my favorite vegetables - easy to make and it can be a full meal. There was a phase when I became a vegetarian and cooked this recipe often. I am no more a veggie but it is now part of our meals with some baked fish. Try it at home specially in this cold weather. The lentils can be bought at Trader Joe's - they come precooked. It says that the mango chutney is optional but trust me it tastes delicious.

1 tsp. curry powder
1.5 cups cooked lentils or one 15 oz canned lentil - rinsed and drained
