#FLASHBACKFRIDAY
"Singing is life... the rest is just details"
This was the slogan of 2002-3 International President Roger Lewis. Coincidentally, it was also the title of this great recruiting video released by the Society in 2002. Although a bit outdated in branding and some of our nomenclature regarding Society goals, it still holds up as a good example of the range of barbershop activity and attitudes.
Part time capsule, part family album... it's a fun look back in our not-so-distant past. Take a peek; it might inspire your own productions!

LET'S GET FINANCIAL
Putting off that financial review? Here's some help to get started!
Most chapter and district officers cringe when they hear the word "audit." Fear not! While the terms "Audit" or even "Financial Review" continue to be a few of those misunderstood, often-frightening terms that can make your treasurer feel faint, in fact, an annual review is an important tool to keep your chapter or district financial house in order. In practice, it's not as bad as you might think!

CRACKING THE VOICE
What Really Happens When a Singing Voice Gets Old - Vulture.com
"Just as athletes can reach middle age hobbled by arthritis and concussions, so singers often hasten the end of their careers by abusing their gifts. Violinists, bassoonists, and ukulele players need to make sure the tools of their trade don't get banged around or left in the sun, but they can't generally damage them with too much practice. Singers, on the other hand, are constantly trying to find a balance between training their muscles and blowing them out."

CHORAL SUPERSTARS UNITE
Francisco Nez to lead youth chorus at Midwinter Convention
In addition to a peak barbershop experience, students at this winter's Youth Chorus Festival will be receive instruction from a clinician with worldwide acclaim.
Francisco Nez, a recipient of a MacArthur "genius" grant, is Artistic Director/Founder of the Young People's Chorus of New York City, which draws together children from widely diverse backgrounds in challenging, top caliber ensembles. The organization's programs extend beyond simply singing; YPC offers a range of College Bound programs, academic support, and mentoring connections. Francisco's own life story, of growing up poor but discovering his own capabilities by way of music, ignites a passion for the work that inspires his many students.
As a Society that believes that music can change people's lives, it is an honor indeed to have Mr. Nez leading our young singers.

APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN: Harmony University Faculty
Ever thought about teaching at Harmony University? Now is the time to apply to join our amazing faculty!
There are two pathways to join our faculty at HU. The first is by personal invitation by the HU team... our method since 1970. The other is to complete an application, letting us know who you are and what you can bring to our students. We welcome barbershop rock stars, local powerhouses, and hidden gems to apply and review them all in the same way to create a vibrant, loving faculty that will teach you well and leave you inspired.
In the end, it comes down to excellent teaching skills and the ability to connect with our students. If this is you, we want to hear from you!
