HARMONY U PRESENTS VIDEO OF THE WEEK: The Performance Category
As our judging community helps us navigate the transition from Presentation (PRS) to Performance (PER), Performance Category experts Marty Lovick, Gary Steinkamp, Mark Kettner, and Gary Plaag took the opportunity at Harmony University to provide a deeper look at what the category looks for, why the change was needed, and how you might already be on the path! This video walks us through some history, some insight, and some examples of fantastic performances.

SOTW: (Everybody's Waitin' for) The Man with the Bag
This fun tune was written in 1950 by Irving Taylor, Dudley Brooks, and Hal Stanley. Originally recorded by Kay Starr, it quickly became a holiday favorite and appeared on Billboard's list of most popular Christmas songs in the early 1950's. Numerous artists have covered the song over the years from Lee Ann Womack to Mannheim Steamroller to The Brian Setzer Orchestra.
Traditionally arranged for vocal soloist and big band, this Dave Briner chart stays true to all the swingin' fun of instrumental versions, reminiscent at times of any saxophone section feature found in so many of the great arrangements that have come before. This tune certainly lends itself quite well to the close harmony style of barbershop, originally arranged for the Masters of Harmony Chorus in 2005, later revised for the Brea Gaslight Chorus in 2013.
