MAKE NEW FRIENDS AND KEEP THE OLD

Inter-Chapter visits bring Barbershoppers together!

Many members recall with the great fondness the once common practice of chapters visiting each other's rehearsals. This well-loved tradition has been popping up in more Districts over the past several years... here are two recent examples!

Toronto Northern Lights and East York Barbershoppers
"We were also thrilled to be joined by our good friends and the original sponsor of our Chapter, the East York Barbershoppers. They brought with them them an incredibly thoughtful and generous gift of a hand crafted podium, commemorating our gold medal in 2013 and the relationship between the two organizations.
Thank you so much to both David for your assistance, and to East York for your ongoing support and friendship. We're a very lucky bunch of guys!"
"The Thoroughbreds are very excited to have a chapter from Indianapolis, Circle City Sound Barbershop Chorus, visit us at our rehearsal venue, Jim Miller Hall. We are even going to be singing a couple of songs together and perform for each other. Barbershopbrotherhood"
Has your chapter taken a field trip lately? Share your experience with us! If you've never had a multi-chapter meeting, connect with your local barbershop brothers and plan an evening of singing together!

WE CAN ALL STAND for MUSIC

Calling all Music Educators: Be a part of Hill Day!

Four perfectly tuned voices generate that miraculous, sweet, essential fifth voice - the overtone. We live in the seventh each day, live in the synergy of a team doing something no one can do alone. That teamwork, that striving for a greater good, lies at the heart of our partnerships with professional music education organizations.Together, we are bringing the world a stronger, more passionate conviction about the value of music on our schools and daily lives.

On June 23, the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) will lead the single largest gathering of music education advocates to Capitol Hill. NAfME is mobilizing college music students in particular to jump to the front lines of teaching and influencing decision-makers in Washington on Hill Day.

NAfME has put out a special call to the Barbershop Harmony Society to encourage our members in the teaching professions to stand for music as part of Hill Day. They see us as learners of all ages who have adopted singing as a lifelong avocation. The influence we have on young lives is profound, long-lasting, and our testimony moving.

We are proud that 2009 International Quartet Champion Crossroads will receive the Stand for Music Award, and hope they will be greeted by more of our young educators in Washington!

Ring-a-Ding Ding!

Best known as performed by Forefront, this Anthony Bartholomew arrangement really cooks! Composers Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen wrote the track for Frank Sinatra's album of the same name and were considered by many to be his personal songwriters.

Keep the tempo moving, smooth and not rushed, on this fun, fast-paced (and not for beginners!) chart. A swing feel is crucial throughout this piece, so be sure to focus on the eighth note values and lock them in. The lead has a little more leeway on this arrangement and, within the chords, can really show off their ability to wail!
