A CAPPELLA HONORED

Pentatonix and Fairfield Four win big at the GRAMMYs

Congratulations are in order for our wonderful friends the Fairfield Four. Their latest album Still Rockin' My Soul just won the 2016 GRAMMY for Best Roots Gospel Album! These guys have been excellent partners for our outreach work and we are thrilled to see them continue to make great music together. They are what singing for a lifetime is all about.

In addition to bring home their second GRAMMY for Best Arrangement, a cappella all-stars Pentatonix also provided one of the best musical moments of the night. They joined the legendary Stevie Wonder for a vocal tribute to the late Maurice White, founding member of Earth, Wind & Fire. The groove was strong and brought the audience of music industry superstars to their feet!

NEWEST BHS CHAPTER?
Midwinter Exclusive: 2016 Medalist Chorus
In the "why can't this be real" category, we bring you the fantastic performance by our medalist chorus at Midwinter. These quartets brought their A-game and put together a gorgeous rendition of the George Benson tune In Your Eyes. Enjoy!

VALENTINE'S DAY WAS SWEET!
Singing Valentine quartets featured on CNN.com
We think of the contest season as busy, but it's NOTHING compared to Valentine's Day. This is probably the biggest performing day of the year for quartets, bringing a little love (plus total embarrassment or a few happy tears) to people near and far. So well done, Barbershopper... you survived!

Bookmark this great article from CNN for your future promotions or to explain exactly why you are never at work on February 14th.

HARMONY FOUNDATION UPDATE
HFI welcomes Rick Taylor to
development team
Barbershop legend Rick Taylor joined Harmony Foundation International in early February as National Development Manager. Based at his home just outside Baltimore, Maryland, Rick will be representing the foundation at chapter meetings and events all over the country.

A lifelong singer and member of multiple medalist quartets, Rick will speak from personal experience about the joy of singing and making that joy possible in the lives of others through Harmony Foundation. HFI is thrilled to have him on the team and we know you will welcome him warmly.

Harmony University now accepting faculty applications for International Convention

Last year in Pittsburgh, Harmony University changed the game and offered over 100 classes between Tuesday and Saturday instead of the usual 4 or 5. This experiment was WILDLY popular and produced the largest number of students we have ever had at HU events during the convention! Classes were not just attended by our members... Sweet Adelines and Harmony, Inc., BHS afflilates, member family and friends, and even local non-barbershoppers all came to learn more about Barbershop. A total win for ALL of our attendees!

If you want to be a part of our Nashville faculty and have fantastic information to share with others, we want to hear from you. Tell us about the content that YOU can bring to our attendees this summer at our International Convention in Nashville, July 4-9th 2016.

This application is NOT for our week long Belmont University school in late July. All applications are for workshop style classes offered at the Nashville convention throughout the week. You would teach 1 or 2 classes that are 50 minutes long.

If you are applying as first time faculty, apply here . This 10-minute online application gathers basic information about you and the content you would like to present.

IN MEMORIAM

Society mourns passing of Barrie Best, past executive director
Our longest-serving BHS Executive Director, Alan "Barrie" Best, passed away February 11, 2016, at the age of 87.

From 1963 to 1977, Best oversaw operations of the expanding Society, through years that saw the creation and growth of education and administrative programs, Harmony College, music publishing, among many other achievements.

His musical talent reached international recognition in the Barbershop Society as well as his local choir and the Barrie Best Chorale. He was executive director for the Barbershop Harmony Society from 1963 to 1977. He served valiantly as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints until the day he died. His church service included serving as a Bishop for over seven years and as the Patriarch of the Vancouver North Stake. He was also a member of Rotary Club, Elks Club, Kenosha Country Club and the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America.

Barrie was the consummate example of chivalry, never let his wife Mary Anne open a door, and cared for her needs lovingly for 57 years. Barrie has already reached the first tee on his "eternal round" of golf...the game he loved so much. Barrie leaves behind an incredible legacy of love, compassion, charity, and humor. He was loved by many, and gave more than he ever received. He will be missed.
