VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Vocal Majority: How Great Thou Art
The audience at the convention in Pittsburgh last summer was treated to a stirring swan song performance from the Vocal Majority. It's always a thrill seeing Jim Clancy directing one of his arrangements and this is no exception. It also happens to be the first track on their latest CD of inspirational and sacred songs, too.

Harmony Hall-idays

HQ staff took a break from a busy week of year-end and 2016 kickoff meetings to share breakfast and good cheer. Our good friends at the Association of International Champions graciously underwrote a lovely buffet of down-home goodness from Nashville landmark Monell's.  (Seriously... add this place to your Nashville itinerary next summer. You're welcome.)

Champs deliver... the best breakfast in town.

Programs! Get your programs!
The 2016 MidWinter Convention is now opened up for program ads, big screen ads, and exhibitors... just like the summer convention! And even better news, the prices are reduced so that more people can take advantage of the opportunity to advertise to their fellow barbershoppers!

Deadline for the program ads is December 21, so if you want to place a program ad, be sure to submit by next week. Deadline for big screen ads and exhibit reservations is January 15.

Visit our web page to access the downloadable form and other information. All submissions should be sent to Mark Holdeman at bhs_exhibits@sbcglobal.net

Meet Voctave!
The first video from this uber-talented group of singers launched this week and we can't stop watching. You'll recognize more than a few familiar faces: our own Tony De Rosa sings alongside veteran Disney performers (and barbershoppers!) in this mixed ensemble. Arranged by Jamey Ray, this lush medley is perfect for the season. Take a moment to enjoy this amazing sound... we can't wait to hear more from Voctave in the (hopefully) near future.

BARBERSHOP FOR YOUR HEALTH

It's the Forcep Four!
Collegiate a cappella is booming... but it's not new! Oregon Health & Science University historian Max Johnson shares a recent acquisition for the Historical Collections and Archives department: a digitized recording of  campus quartet the Forcep Four, from their last recording session done in 1962.

"The Forcep Four was a group of students including Jim Haaland, Robert Clark, Douglas Chambers, and Hollis Augee who were active in the early 1960s. Various singing groups had existed at the University of Oregon Medical School (the predecessor to today's OHSU School of Medicine) for years, but the Forcep Four seemed to have gained quite a reputation during their time. In the December 1960 issue of "What's Going On?", an article on the Forcep Four mentions that they were practicing regularly during the noon hour at the OHSU Auditorium and would frequently perform around campus, for instance for the School of Nursing Wassail and the Hospital Christmas parties. According to the article, the quartet was eyeing competing in the Barbershop Quartet contest in Forest Grove [which is now in its 70th year - ed.] in late February of 1961."
