Meet Ashley Brown, Customer Service Center Specialist
In October, the Society added Ashley Brown to our ranks as a new customer service center specialist. A Nashville native and recent graduate of the University of Tennessee, she comes with a passion for nonprofits and a lot of experience serving people. A lover of communities and the arts, she has been an enthusiastic addition to the staff. Ashley has been steadily learning the ropes here in Customer Service, and will start taking phone calls next week, so go easy on her!
If a book were written about your life, who would write it and why?
Neil Gaiman. He writes urban fantasy and always writes strong female characters. His characters are capable of saving themselves without needing a prince.
If you could change places with someone at the Barbershop Harmony Society headquarters, who would it be? What would you do?
I'd switch places with Ashley Torroll: Ashley for an Ashley! I've always been involved with outreach in my life and am really interested in grant writing. Plus she won the Halloween contest dressed as a cat, which is kind of like my spirit animal.
What is your weirdest quirk?
I do a really bad Larry David impression. (Editor's note: it really cracks us all up!)
What is one thing that you have learned about the barbershop community in your first month?
I was surprised at the diversity of ages. When you first think of barbershop as a
newcomer, you think it is for the older generation, but I am happy to find that it brings people of all ages together who are enthusiastic and passionate about singing.
What CD is in your car right now?
My boyfriend (Eric Phillippi) is the lead singer and guitar player in a rock 'n' roll band here in Nashville called Reverse Buzzards, so I have their CD in my car always!
