Just a few more days until the monumental Barberpole Cat Songbook Vol II becomes available!
This long-awaited book will become a staple for many choruses throughout the Society. Today we're continuing down the list to showcase two of the most widely-known arrangements.
Coney Island Baby / We All Fall Medley
Hello Mary Lou
"Coney Island Baby", or "Coney Island Baby / We All Fall Medley ", as we call it by its legal name, is the song that the world has in mind when someone says barbershop... striped vest, boater hats, and all. In fact, most people think it's required for any quartet worth their spats to know it cold. Popular with the kids, there are some Harmony Explosion camps that would, well, explode if the boys didn't sing a little Coney Island!
David Wright is our only arranger in the book to have two songs... "Bright Was the Night" and "Hello Mary Lou". Many of the newer crop of barbershoppers cut their teeth on this song, known for its catchy tune, simple chords, and fun swipes. "Hello Mary Lou" is heard nearly everywhere Barbershoppers sing: at Harmony Explosion camps, shows and 'glows, table-side in restaurants, and even in some contests.

And another thing...
Alert readers may have noticed a
slight revision of history last week. You all know, of course, that the
Louisville Thoroughbreds sang the terrific "
Lucky Day" that we highlighted
last week. Just ask any of
our revered friends in the Louisville No. 1 Chapter.
