A PROPER PROPOSAL
Liverpool dentist really IS romantic!

What's a guy to do when his girl says he isn't a spontaneous, grand gesture, over-the-top-display sort of fella? Prove her wrong with a surprise proposal complete with a barbershop quartet singing their song, of course!

This charming proposal was made possible in part by Proper Sound quartet... and a daring and dare-we-say romantic groom-to-be. Congrats, kids!

CH-CH-CH-CHANGES...
Web redesign getting positive reviews

Our first major upgrade in more than five years of the Harmony Marketplace online shopping experience is getting some nice notices. Customers are praising the clean, modern design. Our customer service team is busy fielding questions on revised processes and items that are not where they used to be found. Overall, we're already seeing faster processing from order placed to order shipped, which of course will prove to be a major step up in customer satisfaction.

As with any major change, we are sailing through some uncharted waters, which only the adventure cruise of real life brings to focus. The entire team is acting quickly on incongruities, errors, and improvements, and we're grateful for customers who are showing understanding and patience.

OH, CAPTAIN! MY CAPTAIN!
A spectacular choice!
Suppose you could have any director in the barbershop world. Who would it be?

You told us who you wanted... and he said yes!! Get ready for the Saturday Night Spectacular, under the direction of....

IT'S ALMOST HERE!
The people spoke... er... sang!

There is much excitement building for the launch of the long-awaited
Barberpole Cat Songbook Vol II. This monumental undertaking had a lot of member involvement with selection. We took polls, asked arrangers, and spent a lot of time deciding what to include. Once we realized that it couldn't contain 38 songs, things got even tougher!

Featured from the book are this week's charts:

"Drivin' Me Crazy" (as sung by OC Times

"From the First Hello" (as sung by The Boston Common)

"Drivin' Me Crazy" is a perennial college favorite. Sung by veterans Keepsake and OC Times (who won gold with it,) this song starts and ends with a relentless tempo, peppered with accents and syncopations along the way. A YouTube search of this chart will yield an impressive number of covers by quartets and choruses alike.

"From The First Hello" is a barbershop standard throughout much of the Society... and a collection like this is simply not complete without it. A staple in the repertoire of the Common, this chart has closed many an afterglow. A lot of us know a version of it, and you're (of course) welcome to apply your favorite musical enhancements, but this is the chart as incomparable Lou Perry arranged it. Classic.

Can't remember the rest of the 12?

  • After You've Gone
  • Caroline
  • Darkness On The Delta
  • Bright Was The Night
  • Drivin' Me Crazy
  • From The First Hello
  • Goodbye My Coney Island Baby
  • Hello Mary Lou
  • I Don't Know Why
  • I've Been Working On The Railroad
  • Lida Rose
  • Over The Rainbow

VIDEO OF THE WEEK
No school like the Old School
Veteran singers. Mature men. Classic barbershop repertoire. A bit of a snap back from all those handsome young quartets stretching the envelope, but in 2011, International Quartet Champion Old School demonstrated the vitality of a quartet that knew exactly what it wanted to be, then went out and lived it all the way.

Come see them at the AIC show in Pittsburgh www.aicgold.com
SONG OF THE WEEK
Feelin' lucky, punk?

We're always in search of uptunes and openers, right? Well, this one's both! Not to be confused with the Gas House Gang chart with a similar name, this Lucky Day was long used by the Louisville Times for a high-octane opener.

With a brand new tag, and freshly revived by last year's Harmony University Honor Chorus, this song drives the tempo and ramps up the energy of the ensemble. An added bonus: this one's got tracks by Drew Wheaton.
