Who's your fantasy tenor?

The Fantasy Quartet that YOU selected will be featured on the Saturday Night Spectacular at Pittsburgh, paying tribute to favorite son Stephen Foster by singing one of his greatest hits, arranged by barbershop icon Ed Waesche.

Trust us, it's going to be EPIC. You have GOT TO BE IN PITTSBURGH to truly appreciate this spine-tingling performance.

But wait-- who's in that quartet? Ah, just telling you would be too easy -- so we'll show you, week by week.

We'll give you a clue to Singer #1: any quartet with this tenor is going to be ringing them three and four octaves up, although he could probably hit the notes himself anyway. Like this:

Did you guess correctly?

(Oh, and by the way... that's just part of the celebration of Pittsburgh native Stephen Foster. Did anyone mention this soon-to-be released little gem?)

Funny thing about top performers: they tend to keep improving. Quartets reaching the Top Twenty start pulling hard for the Finals; choruses with past medals are determined to show they belong there when they return.

You can put this hypothesis to the test this year in Pittsburgh, thanks to this super gift offer.

Purchase a full convention registration online before June 24, and we'll give you BOTH the 2014 Quartet AND Chorus contest recordings as FREE DOWNLOADS! This is a $30 value, our way of giving you that final nudge to say, "YES! I'VE GOT TO BE THERE!"

Sheet music prices realigned to industry standards

Coming in the next six weeks, the Barbershop Harmony Society will significantly overhaul the way it prices and sells sheet music, its first major significant pricing change since 2004.

All sheet music, whether published or unpublished, will be sold at fixed prices. We have eliminated the variable arranger fees that often confused customers; these fees also tended to price some of the best charts beyond the means of many performers. Now, most unpublished arrangements will be less expensive than under the old system.

Better still, all members, quartets and chapters will now enjoy a 25% discount on all purchases at Harmony Marketplace. A forthcoming technology upgrade will automatically award you the best price for any purchase, simplifying the shopping and checkout process.

Together, these upgrades to our pricing and technology will have an even greater global impact.

  • Our pricing will be identical to that found at major publishers such as Hal Leonard.

  • Under a single licensing model, we will be able to rapidly expand the range of titles being sold worldwide, bringing more barbershop music to more people in more countries.

  • These changes will create a more equitable compensation system for our arrangers, enhancing their revenue and providing incentive for them to continue to expand our catalog with top quality material distributed around the world.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK
Own your successes
When Max Q burst onto the scene in 2003, many saw the all-star quartet as immediate shoo-ins to win the gold. Although their path wound through several silvers, what emerged at the far end of the 2007 international quartet contest was a unique "humble brag" of consummate performers who gleefully engaged in bringing the audience in on the joke. Their honesty, ease, and delight in their musical friendship poured out in this memorable performance of "Here's To The Losers."

We are totally stoked to see these guys on the AIC Show at Pittsburgh!

SONG OF THE WEEK

"Titanium"

See also: song of awesomeness and empowerment by Sia. Deke Sharon and David Wright have teamed up once again to bring us a barber-pop arrangement of "Titanium." And we're debuting both the Men's (TTBB) and Women's (SSAA) versions simultaneously. Both are recorded by master trackster Tim Waurick.

"Titanium" was featured in the movie Pitch Perfect, whose sequel opened HUGE last weekend. Sia's release got a lot of radio time in the US and Europe, and our arrangement is a catchy, driving uptempo chart.

A Cappella reality show spawns super mash-up

Sing It On to cover of Meghan Trainor's "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" using videos submitted from all over the world. Sheet music and audio tracks were distributed via website... the singers did the rest! Special shout out to Ben Bram, genius arranger and Westminster pal.

Remember to report your legal filings in eBiz

Many chapters have already filed their IRS Form 990 paperwork. Bravo! Now be sure to report that fact in ebiz.barbershop.org to ensure the entire organization can accurately report on compliance.

Filing these annual reports with government agencies isn't just a good idea; it's the law. Even if you are late in completing your filing, better to complete it now than leave it unfinished indefinitely.

As a reminder, all U.S. chapters, districts and subsidiaries (Brigades, etc.) must report to the IRS by May 15th each year. Failure to file on time can result in either financial penalties for each day a return is late or loss of non-profit status or both. Canadian Chapters must file on or before June 30 with the Canada Revenue Agency.

The Barbershop Harmony Society also requires ALL chapters, both US and Canadian, must complete a financial review for 2014 by May 15, 2015. This is not difficult, is not an audit and merely requires a financially savvy person, other than the treasurer, to inspect your books.
