Dick Grapes, last of the Buffalo Bills, passes

Dick Grapes, gold medal baritone of 1950 International Quartet Champion the Buffalo Bills passed away February 16 at the age of 90. As recounted in the July 2008 Harmonizer, Dick declined the invitation to appear on Broadway in The Music Man, and never regretted the choice. A lifelong football fan, he spent many years working the chain gang for his hometown gridders, the NFL's Buffalo Bills, and was for 51 years the voice of the North Tonawanda High School football team. (See full obituary.)

Grandson McKay Perkins, a member of the Wasatach Front Chapter Saltaires, invites Barbershoppers to join the family services in Tonawanda, New York this Saturday, February 21. "On his behalf and that of our family, we are grateful to the Society for the part it has played in providing us with some great experiences and memories with him. I would be more than happy to correspond with any individual who might have questions, and would also love to hear of ANY experiences people across the BHS have had with him. I know the memories of others would be a treasured keepsake for my family. My email is mckay.perkins@gmail.com."

NEITHER RAIN, NOR SLEET, NOR SNOW... BUT ICE? ICE WAS NOT PART OF THE DEAL!

HQ staff survives ice-pocalypse

To all you wise guys who pointed out that it snows everywhere: yup, it sure does -- especially in places equipped with salt trucks, and snowplows, and where this lovely weather occurs weekly. Nashville? Not quite the same. When an ice storm paralyzed middle Tennessee on Tuesday, closing schools, government offices and interstate roadways, your ever-reliable staff stepped right up, logged in by remote computers, and kept business operations moving. We thought you'd enjoy a peek inside our far-flung network of home offices.

The printers never stopped... printing. And coloring.

SALUTE TO SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN
Back in print: "Armed Forces Medley"

Few pieces in the barbershop repertoire earn such accolades as the "Armed Forces Medley." Respect for service men and women, rousing classic musical themes, and a tight arrangement (Fred King, John R. Grant, Steve Delehanty, and Tom Ewald) make this a winner in all concert settings, and a great part of your offering for patriotic holidays.
Vinyl is cool!
Reviews have been solid for the limited-edition, exclusive-content 2014 Top Ten Quartets album released a few weeks back. Yes, an album -- a record played on a turntable. Listeners report a curious mixture of sonic satisfaction and nostalgia. Get on the cutting edge of the Great Vinyl Revival today!
Sing with the best in the Harmony U Honors Chorus

Singers with aspirations to sing at the highest level are invited to audition for the 2015 Harmony University Honors Chorus.

If you're a strong singer in a relatively weak chorus, you may not always get your itch scratched for top-level performance. The Honors Chorus gives you a week-long experience singing for a medalist-caliber director, alongside other quality singers devoted to creating something magical.

Stepping to the front this year is Aaron Dale, former director of the International Medalist chorus Kentucky Vocal Union from Elizabethtown, KY. Aaron is also a prolific arranger, arranging songs for some of the most prestigious groups in The Society.

The Honors Chorus will appear as a featured ensemble on the Saturday Night Show. Application for this chorus will be by audition and is open to Society members only. You will be required to record yourself singing a few measures of our audition number, and send it to the audition team by May 1, 2015.

Get to know Laura Tracy, Customer Service Specialist

If you could spend the day with any celebrity, who would it be and why?

Meryl Streep- she is such a brilliant woman! She's worked with so many different actors and actresses that I bet she is full of stories!

If you could change places with someone at the Barbershop Harmony Society headquarters, who would it be? What would you do?

Sherry Lewis- she is ALWAYS laughing at something..I want to know what that woman is up to!

What is your weirdest quirk?

Just one? Hah! Incorrect grammar drives me absolutely nuts. When I read an e-mail or have a conversation with someone, it is very hard for me to not want to correct his or her grammar; however, I refrain!

What is your most-asked question over the phone in the customer service department OR most answered over the phone on your part?

"If I place my order over the phone with you, why won't it get processed immediately?" We will gladly accept any order that we receive over the phone; however, we like to be fair to those who have placed their order through the Harmony Marketplace website, as well, because anyone is free to order online 24/7. This is why we process all orders in the order they are received, regardless of ordering method. This allows our department to operate in the most efficient way possible!
