Happy Valentine's Day from the All-Chapter Chorus
Although you might be busy this weekend racing around to deliver love songs, don't forget the ones at home. Barbershop is all very nice, but your own loved ones are more important.

The 105-voice inaugural All-Chapter Chorus at the 2015 Midwinter Convention recognized their beloveds in this video, which played as they performed "My Cup Runneth Over With Love." Start Saturday morning with this sweet message for your sweeties before hitting the road for Singing Valentines. You'll be much more welcome when you come home.
All Chapter Chorus - My Cup Runneth Over (Midwinter 2015)
Crossroads/Fairfield Four to appear at ACDA convention

Barbershop will be highly visible at the upcoming biennial National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) in Salt Lake City, reflecting an expanding effort to support directors of choruses in many different settings.

For the first time, the Barbershop Harmony Society will present in all major venues:

  • A landmark interest session tracing the African-American roots of the style, presented by Grammy-Award winning gospel quartet The Fairfield Four and 2009 International Quartet Champion Crossroads.

  • An industry showcase concert, where they can hear long sets from Crossroads and FF4 to feel the full impact of our style.

  • A music reading session, where directors actively sing through more than a dozen titles, to truly experience the sound for themselves

Our Outreach team, lead by Sherry Lewis and Joe Cerutti, will man our expansive booth directly at the entry of the exhibit hall -- a prime location that reflects the depth of our partnership with ACDA.

Barbershoppers attending as music educators should drop by Booth 100 for an invitation to an exclusive salon performance and reception by the quartets. See you there.

DARE WE SAY - BEST LINEUP EVER?
AIC bringing a full decade of champs
Even admitting our own breathless fandom, wow, this is one stellar lineup. Holy moly, when have you ever seen TEN STRAIGHT YEARS of champs on one show?

The Association of International Champions is putting them all on stage at Pittsburgh this summer, plus 25th-anniversary champs Acoustix.

Miss this? Are you kidding? Tix on sale now at www.AICGold.com -- which, by the way, has a fresh new look.

Bobby McFerrin makes sight singers of an audience - without music!
Is our response to music hard-wired or culturally determined? Is the reaction to rhythm and melody universal or influenced by environment?

A 2009 World Science Festival session titled "Notes & Neurons: In Search of the Common Chorus" explores these topics with the help of some experts: This Is Your Brain On Music author and McGill scientist Daniel Levitin, legendary musician Bobby McFerrin, and neuroscientists Jamshed Bharucha and Lawrence Parsons.

Watch Bobby McFerrin demonstrate the common language of the pentatonic scale

Try this with an audience sometime -- then remind them they are all singers.

Socialize Valentines Day!

HQ social media pro Amy Rose reminds us that nothing says "I love you" like sharing your #SingValentines pictures and stories. See what she did there? Used the Twitter/Instagram/Facebook hashtag in the story? Try these platforms:

Twitter: Use #singingvalentine in your tweets: "Delivered a #singingvalentine to the mayor."

Instagram: Tag your photos with #singingvalentine  You can shoot 14 second video clips, too!

Facebook: Hashtags aren't as useful, but are fun and a great way to describe the action. Hashtag away!

Need to know more about hashtags? Check out our Hashtag 101 at bit.ly/hashtagsingingvalentine  Then, get posting, and we'll share them back to the planet.

Clever one, that Amy Rose, whom we acquired specifically because her name is most apt for the holiday (Amy = ami = love, rose = traditional flower.)

SONG OF THE WEEK
Nobody loves you any better than
your G-R-A-double M-Y
Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga are bringing the great American songbook to a new generation of fans, and this week were recognized with a Grammy Award for their collaboration. A second album is rumored.

Great news: we've already been singing these songs for decades! Try these faves:
