SONG OF THE WEEK

New Kirby Shaw arrangement: "Shut De Do"

Look for Dr. Kirby Shaw, arranger extraordinaire and presenter at the International Youth Barbershop Chorus Festival at the Midwinter Convention. Kirby is an accomplished musician, conductor, writer, arranger, improv artist, and teacher. He's a staple at many ACDA events, often leading interest sessions and reading sessions with characteristic wit and charm.

If you're in New Orleans, you can thank him in person for the newest arrangement, "Shut De Do." Influenced by the classic spiritual style, this one is energetic, fun to sing, and has solo opportunities and an  irresistible groove.

Oh, and while you're at the website, don't forget to look for Kirby's arrangements of Cups (now available in TTBB, SSAA, and SATB voicings) and I'm Yours.

TICK TICK TICK TICK
Save $50 by ordering Pittsburgh registrations by January 15

Clock's running -- early bird pricing ends next Thursday. Why shilly-shally around? You know you want to... you know you eventually will.

Why not save that dough for a few more CDs in the Marketplace? Heck, with the money you save on registrations, you could buy a ticket to the World Harmony Jamboree to boot! Or to to the AIC Show! Or even sandwiches for the entire quartet at Primanti Bros. (Trust us: that french-fry-and-coleslaw-topped wonder will change your life and finance your cardiologist's next Mercedes.)

More news soon about the singing, the service, the fun, and the wide-open arms extended to the community. Meanwhile, save some cash for the Big Week, and order now.

SingingValentines.com closed for retooling

Several chapters have inquired regarding the SingingValentines.com service, which has provided links to providers for the past 20 years. The site is currently closed as we retool its ancient, creaking database and model, and reconsider how to position it for greater effectiveness in the future. Immediate plans are to build a new singingvalentines.com front page that will easily link to our "Find A Society Chapter" and "Find a Society Quartet" page that are already on our public search page.

Chapters may want to log into their details in ebiz.barbershop.org to ensure that the Chapter Contact is the right phone number, email, etc., so that they don't miss a beat, and to add/update the Chapter Singing Valentines Contact officer role.

EZDUES GETS EASIER

You talked, we listened: No more EZDues automatic enrollment on the 2015 Membership Application

You told us that the EZDues automatic enrollment portion of the most recent versions of the membership application was confusing. You didn't notice the tiny opt out box on the application and you weren't sure what to fill in under the dues prices to get off your first year (what a great deal). You were right; it was confusing!

So, when we updated the membership application for the 2015 year, we removed the automatic enrollment and the opt out of EZDues box as a direct result of your feedback. No worries chapter officers: your potential members can still enroll in that payment plan (and get that great deal on the first year) by filling out the applicable section on the brand new application. Check it out here: barbershop.org/membershipdocs, and let us know if you have any questions! Call us at 800-876-7464 or email [email protected]. We will be happy to help!
