Fallon's Ragtime Gals, Steve Carell cover pop classic

"Sexual Healing" might not be standard barbershop fare, but we think the Ragtime Gals gave a nice performance on Wednesday night's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Sticklers will note that this isn't truly the first time Marvin Gaye has been done in the barbershop style (right, Musical Island Boys?), but we'll give the Gals a bye. As always, we acknowledge that not everyone will find this material aligned with his definition of barbershop.

PUZZLE STANDS UNCRACKED

Winners named in LP mystery

Our groovy video promo brought many curious shoppers to HarmonyMarketplace.com on CyberMonday, where they were greeted by something very special: a limited-edition, exclusive content 2014 Top Ten Quartets album. Yes, an album -- a record played on a turntable.

Surprisingly, some folks were unaware of this collectors' item. Perhaps they hadn't unraveled the SIX HINTS to this product in the initial LiveWire story.

Last week, we offered a prize drawing among readers who got all 6 clues, and an additional drawing for those catching 5 of 6. While many creative entries included 7, 8, 9 interpretations not intended by the puzzlemaster, no one got all 6 intended clues, so we'll give those players a pass into the bonus round.

Winner - 5 of 6: Jim Inghram

Winner - Bonus Round: Peter Frank

We promise our CyberMonday sale will be extra groovy

We know the way you think: "Fine, I'll take a peek later." Do it now. Lest we wax loquacious on our great deals, watch the video and figure out for yourself why you
must be at HarmonyMarketplace.com on Monday. About one third really proficient marketing, about two thirds coy gamesmanship, this promo probably won't play long, once collectors snap up the stock.
  • Groovy: every record has a groove.
  • Fine, I'll: say it aloud, quickly, slowly, quickly. Do you hear "vinyl"? OK, admittedly a bit obscure
  • Wax: Early recordings were manufactured on wax, and the word persisted as slang for a record
  • One third is 33.3% or thirty-three and a third, the rate a record turns
  • Really proficient marketing: initial letters RPM also refer to revolutions per minute
  • Play long: reversed is long play, as in long playing record.
Props to all who entered!
MIDWINTER CONVENTION | January 6-11, 2015
All-Chapter Chorus songs span eras and styles

Greg Clancy directs. Twenty quartet medalists form the driving heart of the chorus. You're just a few songs away from an unforgettable singing experience at Midwinter Convention.

You'll remember "It's A Brand New Day" as a great show opener by the Interstate Rivals. This one grabs the audience by the lapels, gives them a shake and warns them they might have a bit too much fun tonight.

A change of pace, "My Cup Runneth Over With Love" is a mellow ballad of appreciation for the gift of love in your lives. The Most Happy Fellows sang this arrangement of a song from "I Do! I Do!", and more recently it has been revived by the Musical Island Boys.

Previously featured this year, the iconic "Sweet Caroline" was a smash hit for A Mighty Wind at the last midwinter convention. We predict this may become the Song of 2015.

Sign up today! You'll get learning tracks, sheet music, and a wonderful time on stage. It's all part of the fun we'll have at the Midwinter Convention this January.

Meet your headquarters staff: Jacqueline Robinson

Our Customer Service Representatives field your calls to renew memberships, register quartets, and purchase Christmas gifts. Here's one of the faces behind the phone.

Q; If you could spend the day with any celebrity, who would it be and why?
A: "Patty Labelle, because I think she's a down-to-earth person. I've seen her live,  and she is who she appears to be!"

Q: If you could change places with someone at the Barbershop Harmony Society headquarters, who would it be? What would you do?
A: "Marty Monson, so I could go visit any chapter and be motivational like he is."

Q: What is your weirdest quirk?
A: "Okay, the addresses in the system we use! The format of the addresses in the system need to fit the postal standard, well, to me anyway. I can't help but go in and fix them when I see one!"

Q: What is your most asked question over the phone in the customer service department OR most answered over the phone on your part?
A. "You are not going to be charged shipping if you select for an arrangement to be emailed! We don't charge you shipping if you select email. Be sure to read those pop-up boxes."

Q: What CD is in your car right now?
A: "Tasha Page-Lockhart; she won the gospel TV show 'Sunday's Best' last year, and she is just awesome."
HOLIDAY EXPLOSION
"No One Is Alone"

Janice Bane, our licensing and copyright virtuoso, discovered a great article from ASCAP that details the top 30 Christmas songs of the century. Naturally, we have arranged almost every one of them in barbershop. Many of these songs have published arrangements complete with learning track, and many songs have multiple versions. Might be a a bit late for this season, but if there's still a gap in next week's gig, maybe we can help.
