MIDWINTER MEANS MIND EXPANSION
David Wright to deliver keynote speech
Midwinter convention means the total package: singing, learning, listening, and participating in the barbershop hobby.

David Wright is also the total barbershop package: a premier arranger, director, coach, teacher, historian, and singer. He has been simultaneously a revolutionary, pressing the furthest reaches of the style, and a celebrator of the purest, cleanest, deceptively simplest of arrangements.

David's depth of knowledge about our history, roots and musical evolution is unmatched. He will present "The Future History of Barbershop" as the keynote speech on Thursday, January 8 at the Midwinter Convention in New Orleans. The session is open to everyone and will have time for some audience Q&A with David during the scheduled time. Expect not only a bit of history, but also some "what you can do today" elements that help shape the personal and chapter/chorus experience of Society members.
CHORUSES <--> DIRECTORS
Director search board shows open gigs

Need a chapter music director? We can help. The Chorus Director Search Map connects chapters with directors seeking gigs. (Say, what's that in the Twin Cities? Peter Benson has retired from the helm at Hilltop, and the multi-medalled Great Northern Union Chorus needs a director? Jump!)

CYBER-MONDAY PUZZLE STILL UNCRACKED

Solve a puzzle, win a prize

Our groovy video promo last week brought many curious shoppers to HarmonyMarketplace.com on CyberMonday, where they were greeted by a one-day 20% discount on apparel, and something very special: a limited-edition, exclusive content 2014 Top Ten Quartets album. Yes, an album -- a record played on a turntable.

Surprisingly, some folks were unaware of this collectors' item. Perhaps they hadn't unraveled the SIX HINTS to this product in last week's LiveWire.

Tell you what: we'll have a little contest. There are SIX CLUES in the story below (in green.) Identify all six and email your guesses to livewire@barbershop.org  We'll hold two drawings to win an LP: one drawing among players getting five of the six clues, and for folks getting all six. (Your puzzle master probably overestimates his own cleverness, but bets there won't be many getting all six.)

DEPT. OF PORTENTOUS HEADLINES
We promise our CyberMonday sale will be extra groovy

We know the way you think: "Fine, I'll take a peek later." Do it now. Lest we wax loquacious on our great deals, watch the video and figure out for yourself why you must be at HarmonyMarketplace.com on Monday. About one third really proficient marketing, about two thirds coy gamesmanship, this promo probably won't play long, once collectors snap up the stock.

Cyber Monday Surprise

MIDWINTER CONVENTION | January 6-11, 2015
All-Chapter Chorus songs span eras and styles

Greg Clancy directs. Twenty quartet medalists form the driving heart of the chorus. You're just a few songs away from an unforgettable singing experience at Midwinter Convention.

You'll remember "It's A Brand New Day" as a great show opener by the Interstate Rivals. This one grabs the audience by the lapels, gives them a shake and warns them they might have a bit too much fun tonight.

A change of pace, "My Cup Runneth Over With Love" is a mellow ballad of appreciation for the gift of love in your lives. The Most Happy Fellows sang this arrangement of a song from "I Do! I Do!", and more recently it has been revived by the Musical Island Boys.

Previously featured this year, the iconic "Sweet Caroline" was a smash hit for A Mighty Wind at the last midwinter convention. We predict this may become the Song of 2015.

Sign up today! You'll get learning tracks, sheet music, and a wonderful time on stage. It's all part of the fun we'll have at the Midwinter Convention this January.

Meet your headquarters staff: Michelle Hankins

Our Customer Service Representatives field your calls to renew memberships, register quartets, and purchase Christmas gifts. Here's one of the faces behind the phone.

Q; If you could spend the day with any celebrity, who would it be and why?
A: "Matthew McConaughey because he's from my hometown!"

Q: If you could change places with someone at the Barbershop Harmony Society headquarters, who would it be? What would you do?
A: "Becca Grimmer because it would be fun to be the one to put stuff up on Facebook."

Q: What is your weirdest quirk?
A: "When walking up the stairs, I always count the steps until I get to where I'm going."

Q: What is your most-asked question over the phone in the customer service department?
A. "This isn't a question, but the most common thing I hear over the phone is, 'Oh look! A live person!'" (They don't realize there's only four of us in the department fielding all of their calls hahaha!)

Q: What CD is in your car right now?
A: "A mixed CD of all kinds of music like country and '80s."
HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD
"No One Is Alone"

Into the woods, to Grandmother's house to sell the cow, to go to the festival, to slay the giant!

Earlier this year we launched Jon Nicholas's Hooked on a Feeling attached to the mega blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy. Next month, Into the Woods comes to the big screen with similar Hollywood pomp and circumstance.. (Think of the 2012 Les Miserables movie, but with Stephen Sondheim at the helm.)

Get ahead of the excitement stirred by Into the Woods with "No One is Alone," the featured song from the movie. Imagine singing the featured song from the film the same week it opens in theaters!

Liz Garnett's arrangement is singable and moving, and we think you'll enjoy this ballad.
