Society testing special offer for music educators and outreach participants

You've said for years that we need to bring our music to wider audiences, and we are responding. This year, we will be reaching out to music educators and students who have participated in our camps, and other fellow travelers in an expanded effort to bring the incredible experience of our international contests to new, excited audiences.

The Barbershop Harmony Society is offering a special, lower-bandwidth feed optimized for  mobile devices FREE to students and teachers who sign up using select education email addresses.(Clarification: Our system recognizes school email addresses ending in .edu, or ending in the standard form of .k12.xx.us . We regret that not all institutions will be able to enjoy free access in this year's initial beta test.)

This "no strings" offer will add to our production expense for the webcast, but it's worth the cost if it creates new barbershop fans. Be cool: don't abuse the system. If you would have paid for the webcast before, pay for it now. Don't "game" the system by slipping through a loophole. Do the responsible thing and pay for the incredible experience you already know it to be.

Roger Payne Memorial Poker

Roger Payne Memorial Poker tournament - win or lose, you win. Or lose. But you win.

The Up All Night Quartet knows how to have a good time, while raising funds for Harmony Foundation.

The Roger Payne Memorial Hold 'Em Tourney, to be held at the MGM Grand on Friday, July 4, following the chorus finals, commemorates the beloved  arranger, judge, director, teacher, quartetter and comedy genius in a way that he could appreciate: a bunch of guys sitting around playing cards and having fun.

The buy-in/donation of $100 gets you a seat with luminaries like John Ward, Joe Hunter, Dan Wright, Brady Anderson, Alan Webb, Rob Snoulten, Billy Edwards, Aaron Riccio, Will Downey, Dean Waters, Ben Elmendorf, Richard Stanford, and Johnny Goebel.

While there will be cash prizes, fully 50% of the proceeds will go directly to the Harmony Foundation; a full complement of one hundred players could yield a $5000 donation to HFI. Word is that anybody who busts out of the tourney will be ceremoniously "sung out" with "Good-Bye" tags. What could be more fun than a low stress Poker Tourney in Vegas with just your best barber-friends?

Bring your lucky straw hat and get a seat - email jhunna1@aol.com for details.

A "Blue Velvet" Keepsake   Previouis Song Of The Week stories
Keepsake, one of the Society's greats, sang many songs that we've published over the years. "From Once Upon a Time" to the recent "I'm Gonna Live 'Til I Die", we've been following them for years.

"Blue Velvet" is the latest in that vein. A beautiful, heart-breaking ballad (ergo, NOT a Singing Valentine candidate...), this one from the pen of Curt Kimball is a tasty morsel of barbershop awesomeness. If you need a new token ballad for your quartet or chorus, this is it! Side bonus, it's fairly short, so it's great for leads that can't remember all the words.

Pair that with a creamy learning track from Keepsake bari Tony De Rosa and you'll be breaking hearts in a matter of days.
MEANWHILE, IN SOCAL MEDIA LAND...
Seven million views on our YouTube Channel! Share with friends!

We're closing in on 7,000,000 total views on YouTube! Seven million -- that's like the entire population of Serbia watching! (Which they might, if our globalization efforts succeed. Barbershop conquers all.)

To celebrate and help us reach that milestone, let's have a pre-convention YouTube Channel sharing party!

The rules are simple.

  1. Pick a favorite video from our YouTube page.
  2. Share it on Facebook, twitter, etc with someone who has never quite understood your obsession.

Here are good places to start your research:

Just can't wait, can you? Gotta have that program in your hands now, to pencil in favorites, check schedules, check the seating chart. (Store it in your phone, maybe? Handy!)

Online membership application coming soon

Our development team is in the final stages of compiling a new online membership application process. All new Society members will be able to easily sign up using eBiz.

New members originate in two places: one from the chapter, as a guest, friend, or relative, and the other from the Internet, as an advocate of our organization. We've catered to both types, and made it easier than ever to become a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Worried about Chapter board approval? No worries. Each new member doesn't officially go onto a chapter's roster until a chapter officer approves the new member via eBiz. We'll be posting a short training video soon.

HQ offices closed during convention

Society headquarters offices will be closed during convention, beginning at close of business Friday, June 27. A skeleton crew in the Customer Service Center returns on Monday, July 7, and all staff return to normal duty the following day.

During convetion, you can continue to renew memberships online, access and update your records at  ebiz.barbershop.org , and shop for merchandise and sheet music at www.HarmonyMarketplace.com  for fulfillment commencing July 8.

Enjoy a safe holiday week, and sing up a storm wherever you are -- at a family picnic, at a webcast party, or with us in Las Vegas.
