Jimmy Fallon, Mike Rowe shout out to bbshop this week
Mike Rowe puppy
Always lead with a cute picture, they taught in journalism school. Does this count?

Mike Rowe recently asked his fans to help him name his new puppy. He ended up naming the little guy after his high school music teacher who changed his life, Freddie King. Freddie was inspirational in so many Barbershoppers' lives as well.

Make sure to check out the end of the post where he pays tribute to Freddie:

"PS. Fred King was the real deal. He died on Labor Day, 2008. Same day we launched mikeroweWORKS. I wrote a eulogy, which turned into a podcast, which turned into a thing. If you've got a half-hour to kill, and ever had a teacher that made a difference, you might like it." Give it a listen.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon and the Ragtime Gals brought still more barbershop to NBC's Tonight Show, this time featuring Oscar winner Kevin Spacey.

What does it take to be great? Ask the Capital City Chorus

capitalcitychours_web

Many things, done well, in a row.

Take a look at this chapter that many of us have never met, doing so many things right:

  • Sending the whole chorus to Harmony University for a week of intensive coaching, growth, and FUN
  • Putting on terrific shows with great performers- Quantum, Instant Classic, and Sweet Ads sensation GQ
  • Active in community through benefits for Heart Assn
  • Putting manpower to work building cabins for a camp of the Boys and Girls Club  - see this cool time-lapse video.CCC @ Camp Smitty

Quite a range of activities - makes for a lively chapter life, we'd bet.

Bring Your Daughter to Barbershop Week:
Young Women in Harmony Chorus at HU

Some Barbershoppers have daughters. Some of those daughters sing. Some of those daughters could be singing barbershop. What will it take to spark the interest for your daughter?

Some of them might find the joy if they have chance to

  1. Go to Nashville, a great destination for any singing gal with Taylor Swift dreams in her heart
  2. Sing with world-famous coaches
  3. Get a car from Daddy for high school graduation. (No promises on the last... but it certainly wouldn't hurt her chances, right?)
Get the details -- show her the fun she could be having at

Las Vegas VIP Registration
Las Vegas VIP registration closes May 15; special hotel rate for all guests closes May 31

If you are eligible for a VIP registration, do it before May 15. This means YOU, Presidents Council members! And YOU, seniors champs, and YOU, AIC members.

Priority seating for these groups takes place this month, so that we can serve all members with the best possible views in the arena.

Of course, EVERYONE should be registering by now, and booking rooms at the MGM Grand, because our special convention rate (as low as $129/night) expires May 31. Vegas books up for the holday weekend, so "playing it by ear" might leave you out in the cold er, heat.

Quartet contest draw set!

"Holy mother of all contests! This thing is going to be off the hook!"
-- Some fan, somewhere. We're pretty sure.

Get ready for an unbelievable day Wednesday, July 2, because this thing is going to be monstrous.

Kibitzers are already comparing prelims scores, concocting theories as to why one quartet is unstoppable or touting hometown faves as dark horses. All we know is that you have to go 24 quartets deep to get below an 80 qualifying score, that two current medalists sing near the top of the show, and that restrooms are located conveniently on the mezzanine, but you'll never want to leave your seat.

Responding to long-standing customer requests, we're pleased to announce our first published arrangement delivered to you digitally.

"When I Lift Up My Head" has reached near-Polecat status in some districts, so it seemed a natural for publication.  Sing it from the sheet music or from your mobile device!  Perfect for the church hall and concert hall!

It's so good, you won't even mind the baritone grabbing the melody for a few brief moments!

Available in arrangements for men's voices. Click through to hear preview tracks!

(Since you asked: Why so long on digital delivery? Well, the licensing for digital versus hard-copy delivery is very different, we wanted to get it right the first time. More to come!)

Keep chapter info up to date in eBiz

Managing your Society and your chapter is much easier when your chapter information at the Society Headquarters is kept current. We can keep you apprised of opportunities for growth, and point prospects to your chapter, only if we know where you are. Better reporting means:

  • Better access to chapter roster info

  • Better assistance with member renewal and retention

  • Accurate map to chapter meeting site

  • Legal compliance with chapter incorporation, IRS filings, etc.

  • Chapter treasurer authorized to charge items to chapter account at Harmony Marketplace

Chapter officers (President, Secretary and Treasurer) should log in to ebiz.barbershop.org to verify that our records are correct.
