MIDWINTER CONVENTION | JANUARY 28-FEBRUARY 2, 2014
139th Street Quartet welcomes guests to Queen Mary party

Barbershopppers of a certain era will remember fondly the redoubtable 139th Street Quartet, a mainstay of international competition across three decades. Beloved as a quartet that never won the gold but never lost an audience, the foursome racked up 19 international contest appearances in three decades, six medals (including two silvers), while also racking up TV appearances on Cheers, Night Court, and many other shows, plus platinum records for appearing on Neil Diamond albums.

This fabled foursome is back together, singing for fun and shows, and they'll be at the Midwinter Convention at Long Beach. Stop by the Thursday night opening gala aboard the Queen Mary and knock some tags with this landmark quartet!

SONG OF THE WEEK
Classics reclassified
Revisit these Christmas Classics with new learning tracks by master track maker Tony DeRosa. three-time gold medal quartet singer, all-star coach, Order of Merlin first class, etc.

"White Christmas" -- Irving Berlin's classic, for many decades the top-selling record in history. A warm, velvety tune in a great setting by Tom Gentry.

"Let it Snow! Let it Snow!" -- A cozy little song to encourage cuddling up by the fireplace, in signature Joe Liles style.
LIFELONG INVESTMENTS INVESTED IN LIVES
Make a tax-free contribution to Harmony Foundation from your IRA before 12/31 d

Arne Themmen, the newest member of Harmony Foundation's Board of Trustees, describes a tax-friendly arrangement that several donors have used recently.

For anyone over 70, the current tax regulations allow you to make a tax-free contribution to a charity, up to $100,000, from your traditional IRA. This contribution can reduce or eliminate your required minimum distribution and will reduce the amount of ordinary income you must report on your personal income tax return. This is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in your taxable income. A cash gift of funds, non-IRA, after tax can only be reported if you itemize deductions, and the benefit is limited to a percentage of your adjusted gross income.

In order to avail yourself of the benefit of an IRA contribution to charity, the distribution must be made in cash by the IRA trustee or custodian directly to the charity. Fortunately, the custodian brokerage firms and trustee banks will provide you with the form to use, upon request.

We have received some generous contributions from financial professionals who have used this arrangement to make gifts to Harmony Foundation. Important: contributions of this type must be made before 12/31/2013 For complete details, see this blog post, or contact rkilleen@HarmonyFoundation.org
