Carolinas District

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina   Details

Land O' Lakes District  La Crosse, Wisconsin  Details

A twist from the usual Saturday night: a special 75th Anniversary Show, with headline quartet A Mighty Wind. A special Youth in Harmony Festival will bring together youth from the District to join their voices in harmony and prepare for the Saturday evening 75th Anniversary Show.

MIDWINTER CONVENTION | JANUARY 28-FEBRUARY 2
Did we mention the youth choruses?

You'd pretty much have to have been hiding under a rock--a very large rock--for a very long time to have missed the news about the International Youth Chorus Festival at Long Beach.

From the sublime (O-YA! Chorus, top) to the ridiculous (Georgia Spirit, channeling mentors FRED,) and all points in between (Cleveland Heights Barbershoppers, right), these young singers have electrified the Midwinter Convention. It truly has become a "fly-across-the-country-GREAT" experience, and once you've seen it, you'll need to recalibrate your thinking about the future of barbershop, of young men today, of our world, and of pop music's place in four-part harmony. You will also laugh, cry, and have fun singing.

This year's festival will bring 20 choruses to the stage (including several returning, better than before!), plus many other activities designed to give singers a "mountaintop experience" of barbershopping.

Be a fan, viewer, patron and participant in this great event by registering for Midwinter Convention now at www.barbershopconvention.com/longbeach

NOW THAT YOU KNOW WHERE YOU STAND...
Aim higher: attend Chorus College in Nashville
Just finished with your district contest? Scored higher than you ever have? On the bubble of qualifying for International?

Your chorus might be ready to take that big next step for next year... and attend the new Chorus College at Harmony University in Nashville, July 27-August 3, 2014.

More than just an intensive coaching session, Chorus College will be an all-around immersion for your members, helping them grow as individual singers and as an ensemble. Your director will grow under the guidance of experts, and your complete chapter package--music, performance and marketing--will be reviewed with an eye toward growth and satisfaction.

DEPT. OF "I DIDN'T KNOW THAT!"
Society builds image among youth and educators

Often enough, the Society points out ways chapters and quartets can be involved in youth in harmony activities. It probably bears mentioning, though, that your work is not occurring in isolation.

The Barbershop Harmony Society has a very active, national presence in many venues for music educators, promoting programs such as the International Youth Chorus Festival, the Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest, and Youth In Harmony workshops and Harmony Explosion camps, and in distributing quality barbershop arrangements that young singers want to sing. These recent ads placed in ACDA's Choral Journal offer a glimpse of the image and flair we're bringing to marketing barbershop harmony to a new generation.

ARMY MOBILIZED!
23K/Phase II is underway - watch your email

Every day, up to 500 Society members will be receiving a personal email invitation to conduct their own "do-it-yourself" interview. Watch your email inbox for your own invitation. You can be assured it is legitimate if it comes from webmaster@bhsadmin.org, and it takes you to a web page at www.bhsadmin.org   The entire process should take no more than 15 to 20 minutes. Please respond quickly when you get your own personal invitation. The volunteer army needs your help, and our Society deserves our support.

Why the lonesome face? We're everywhere!
