OLD JOKE - NEW PUNCHLINES
Yes, you can get to Carnegie Hall (and yes, you will have to practice)
Historic Carnegie Hall is known worldwide as one of America's most prestigious concert venues for both classical and popular music. This year, it will host two superb barbershop concerts in the span of less than a month.
Lest there be any confusion, both are supported and promoted by the Barbershop Harmony Society. Both offer opportunities for Barbershoppers to sing on the famous stage; and both would make excellent entertainment during a holiday excursion to New York City.
See individual stories for full details -- here's the overview. - Barbershop Festival 2013 performs on Sunday, December 1, 2013. Participation in the chorus is open to singers of all ages, who will experience rehearsals and performance with Heart of America Chorus, Meredith Willson's own River City Chorus, Crossroads Quartet, The Gas House Gang and Premium Blend. - The No Borders Youth Chorus performs Sunday, December 26, 2013. Participation in the performing chorus will be open to all men ages 30 and younger. Director is Joe Cerutti; featured performers/clinicians are Lunch Break quartet. Details: http://www.nbmconsort.org/page/home
Two great shows -- two "dream come true" performance opportunities for Barbershoppers.

ALL SINGERS WELCOME
Celebrate 75 years of Barbershop Harmony at Carnegie Hall
The Barbershop Festival presented by Manhattan Choral Productions is designed for qualified barbershop harmony chorus singers to collaborate on a selection of barbershop songs under the direction of renowned Barbershop specialist - Mark Fortino.
Participating singers will experience rehearsals and performance with Heart of America Chorus, Meredith Wilson's own River City Barbershop Chorus, Crossroads Quartet, The Gas House Gang and Premium Blend - not only preparing the ensemble for the final concert at world-renowned Carnegie Hall, but also sharing and developing musicianship skills that will benefit the singers far beyond their residency in New York.

OUR FUTURE UNFOLDING TODAY
Making the music that's making a difference
You've been hearing a lot lately about an increasing emphasis on extending our reach outside our own limitations. The Barbershop Harmony Society is uniquely positioned to become powerful advocates for music by collaborating with fellow travelers of all stripes.
One strategic partnership that has been growing recently is with the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA.) In this video, its leader, Dr. Tim Sharp, delivers the keynote address at Harmony University 2013, speaking to the shared mission of healthy singing and musical companionship.

HARMONY COLLEGE FAR, FAR, FAR EAST
Barbershop reaches Shanghai
Vocal music is hot in Asia. Just ask Eric Monson, baritone of 1992 Collegiate Champ Water Street Junction, and currently with a cappella pop group Metro.
This course catalog is a little harder to read than Harmony University, but you get the idea.
|
Eric recently conducted a barbershop workshop in Shanghai with 90 a cappella students(both male and female) for a 90 minute workshop with VocalAsia, the Asian a cappella organization. Along the way, he grabbed this video greeting from his students.
