BOLT-ON THE METADATA
Music catalog needs a little time, love and tenderness
Music Publications Editor Adam Scott issued a new challenge this week:
BHS is working on a comprehensive, thorough cataloging effort and needs your help! Volunteers need proficiency with google docs and a love for the Barbershop art form. Contact Adam Scott at ascott@barbershop.org for more details!
The aim is to make the Society's music catalog the envy of every publisher. Details such as song title, arranger, and voicing are easy; extending it to categories, themes, eras, and "as sung by" are the longer-range vision. Quoth the visionary, "I hope to see in the future a customer thinking, 'I want to see all Disney songs difficulty level 3 and 4,' or 'Show me all Beatles Uptunes.' Crowdsource the catalog, and this is possible.
Holler at Adam (ascott@barbershop.org) to offer your help, then get ready to fill in the missing data.

HARMONY U NEXT GEN CHORUS
Ringmasters make pretty good section leaders
This rough schematic should give you some idea of how the Harmony University Next Generation Chorus will work this summer. "R" indicates a Gold Medalist section leader; "U' equals... ummmm.... you.
Any questions?
Oh, sure, you'll have plenty of other guys to sing with... a world-class faculty... the legendary ice cream, fun and endless tagging. Really, though, won't this be fun enough?
Dads, grandfathers -- be a hero -- send your kid to HU this summer.
For best pricing, register before June 15 at www.barbershop.org/education/harmony-university.html |
DEPT. of GETTING-OVER-ONESELF
"Lions Club Rap" pitches "old" club to new generation
Lots of lessons to be learned here from "Rockin' The Vest," a promotional rap video produced by service organization Lions Club International.
With 21st-century irony, the video makes the trademark yellow vest a source of pride and symbol of philanthropy.
Dare anyone to beat this in the barbershop idiom.
"Dial up that pacemaker, G.... I got something to say." Watch the video.

HX Camps are right around the corner. Whom will you send?
Harmony Explosion (HX) camps provide a great multi-day opportunity for high school singers to meet other students who share similar interests, learn more about singing and vocal technique, experience the thrill of barbershop harmony, ring 4-part chords 'til the wee hours of the morning, and have a ton of fun!
The Society has stepped up its marketing of the program with stylish advertising in major choral publications. Now would be a great time to pass along this ad and link to educators with whom you have a relationship, with an offer to provide scholarships.
