Dick Van Dyke talks 'shop
Parade Magazine recently interviewed Honorary Barbershop Member Dick Van Dyke after he won the Life Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild last Sunday night. Reporter Walter Scott asked this question:
"You've performed with a Barbershop quartet, The Vantastix, since 2000. What's that been like?"
Dick's answer:
"It's my favorite thing to do. It's kind of my retirement amusement. I don't play golf. I have more fun singing and dancing."
Read the rest of the interview and view video clip of The Vantastix performing a "Mary Poppins" medley 'ERE.
Thanks Parade Magazine, Mr. Scott, and Dick Van Dyke.
The lucky guys who get to sing with Dick in The Vantastix are: Mike Mendyke, Bryan Chadima and Eric Bradley. Go to Vantastix website to view videos.
The Society congratulates Dick Van Dyke on the Life Achievement Award -we love you!

The Alliance Chorus Sings at Ohio Senate
The Alliance Chorus was invited to send a small group to sing at the Opening Session of the 130th General Assembly of the Ohio Senate in Columbus on Jan 7, 2013. Twelve singers, directed by Master-Director and Society Board Member David Calland, opened the historic day, when new senators were sworn in and a new Senate President was elected. They sang the "National Anthem" and concluded the session by leading the entire Assembly and all in attendance with "God Bless America."
"It was a great privilege to take part in the ceremony, and our members served the chapter, the Society, and our mission extremely well," said Dave.
We're proud of The Alliance Chorus!

Planning Memorial Day or
4th of July Performances? It's just the right time to order the Patriotic Premiere Series, a special edition of the Music Premiere Series introduced in the fall. This issue includes six songs and a mixed-track demonstration CD. As with all previous series, four-part learning tracks are available for each song, voiced by Vocal Spectrum's Tim Waurick and Max Q's Tony DeRosa. We hope you'll enjoy this essential mix of patriotic songs, all singable by the majority of barbershoppers, including: "The Star Spangled Banner," "America, the Beautiful," "Armed Forces Medley," "Battle Hymn of the Republic," "God Bless America" and "God Bless the U.S.A." Listed to samples and order HERE. |
PRESERVATION MAGAZINE Read about the losers for a change! In this just-out January 2013 issue of PRESERVATION Magazine, read about fourteen quartets who came in second, often missing the gold medal by very narrow margins ... the guys who were told many times afterward that they SHOULD have won ... the guys we can all identify with! Download this and other back issues of PRESERVATION Magazine HERE. Thanks to Society Historian Grady Kerr for another great issue! |
