In this just-out January 2013 issue of PRESERVATION Magazine, read about fourteen quartets who came in second, often missing the gold medal by very narrow margins ... the guys who were told many times afterward that they SHOULD have won ... the guys we can all identify with! Download this and other back issues of PRESERVATION Magazine HERE. Thanks to Society Historian Grady Kerr for another great issue! |

Ontario District Border Patrol, earned the gold this year in the International Seniors Quartet Competition with superb singing and smooth presentation. Winning the Silver was Faces 4 Radio, a Mid-Atlantic quartet from the Philadelphia, PA area. Bronze Medalists include 3rd Place DOUBLETAKE (FWD), 4th Place TMI (JAD), and tying for 5th Place were Stacked Deck (DIX) and Trade Secret (NEC). See the entire score sheet HERE. |
Youth Chorus Festival
This year's Youth Chorus Festival had nearly 500 young men on stage, in the halls and lobbies singing tags all night, and taking in the rich treats of the shows and glows for three days in Orlando. Everywhere one turned, there was the realization that many of these guys are life-long barbershoppers in the making! They had a lot of fun ... and they were a lot of fun to watch!
Pictured above is Audience Favorite The Recruits, a chorus of 42 guys from the Central States District, most ably directed by Jonny Moroni (far right, front row), who placed at the top in Plateau AA.
The top chorus in Plateau A was The Ontario Youth a Capella Chorus (ONT), directed by Jordan Travis and Shawn Oakes, and the top chorus in Plateau AAA was HD Chorus, (SUN), directed by Alex Rubin.

What does Darin Drown say
about Harmony University?
"Taking our chorus to Harmony University was one
of the greatest educational, camaraderie-building
and purely fun events we have done in my
thirteen years with the chorus ... a definite highlight
of my barbershop career!"
Other comments from Sound of the Rockies:
John Manion: "I've experienced this enlightening week seven times by myself, but as a member of a chorus, it was also extremely bonding with my brothers. The Saturday evening show was one of the high points of my experience with the chorus. Coaching, learning, and singing together at Harmony University has been one of the greatest times in my 25-year barbershop career ... and the quality of our recent performances proves that."
George Davidson: "Words cannot express the joy of spending a week with your own chorus. It was 24/7 togetherness! Twice-a-day rehearsals with amazing coaches, classes, late night tags and ice cream! Fun! We came home a transformed chorus!"
Save Big - Make Your Plans Now!
