You Can Be a Part
of Historic 75th Anniversary
Issue of The Harmonizer

A special 75th Anniversary Issue of The Harmonizer is well underway, and your chapter, chorus or quartet can be a part of it! This January/February 2013 issue will be an over-sized, archive-quality keepsake issue, printed on thicker, glossier paper. Loosely based on The Harmonizer's 25th Anniversary issue, this will be even bigger and better. Don't miss this chance to be part of history!

Click HERE for details and the submission form. Deadline for space reservation is December 20, 2012.
Rich Knight header

Rich Knight has been involved with choral music all his life.

But since "Barbershop Harmony" entered his life in 1976, he has had a passion to help youth discover and share in this great musical art form.

Through his years of performing with the 1993 International Quartet Champions, Gas House Gang, and more recently through his love of coaching quartets and choruses, it has become clear to him that the future of our Society lies with the youth movement.

Rich has funded a challenge of $100,000 to enroll 100 new President's Council members to Harmony Foundation by the end of the 2013 Midwinter Convention. That's right! Your support will help assure at least $200,000 will be invested in the youth!

For more information on how you can join the Rich Knight Challenge, please call the Harmony Foundation office at 866-706-8021. Or, click Harmony Foundation to donate online.

   Special Edition: Patriotic Premiere Series

Greetings Harmony Lovers and Patriots!

This year we are proud to announce, in honor of Veteran's Day November 11, a special edition of the Music Premiere Series, the Patriotic Premiere Series! This issue includes six pieces of sheet music and a mixed track CD demonstrating each song. As with previous series, four-part learning tracks are available for each song, voiced by Vocal Spectrum's Tim Waurick and Max Q's Tony DeRosa. We hope you'll enjoy this essential mix of patriotic songs, all singable by the majority of barbershoppers, including: "The Star Spangled Banner," "America, the Beautiful," "Armed Forces Medley," " Battle Hymn of the Republic," "God Bless America" and "God Bless the U.S.A."

Listen to samples and order HERE.

Phi Mu Alpha? What's In It for You?

A few weeks ago we announced a "strategic alliance" with Phi Mu Alpha, the professional men's music fraternity. You may have asked yourself, "so what?!" Both organizations continue dialogue and discussions on how to mutually benefit each other, and will continue to do so. However, a quick way to take advantage of this new relationship is for each of our chapters to reach out to a local Phi Mu Alpha (PMA) Chapter.

Invite them to an upcoming show - they have a vested interest in American music, and last time we checked, Barbershop Harmony is an American Art Form!

Invite them to your chapter meeting. Members of PMA are musicians in some way ... they could be instrumentalists or singers, but in PMA, everyone is encouraged / required to be a singer. Your chapter could provide an opportunity to support their efforts to become better singers.

Ask them if they have any concerts or recitals coming up that you could attend. Wouldn't that be a wonderful way to be involved in your community, all the while being exposed to new music?

Ask the members of your own chapter if anyone is a Sinfonian (members of PMA are called Sinfonians) and you'll be surprised at how many are members of both.

To find a PMA chapter near you, click HERE. Reach out and begin a relationship with them!

Ringmasters Portland LW
Yes, they're from Sweden, and no, you don't need to shoulder the cost of flying Ringmasters to your chapter show ... or at least not much of it. The 2012 champs will be performing throughout North America from May through August of 2013, and they'd love to be on your show, and to perform and/or be clinicians at your local schools. Having the world's top barbershop quartet coming to your town from Sweden could be the easiest media and show ticket sales pitch you'll ever make. if interested, contact George Davidson
