Sprinting for the Stars - Lenski Student Fund Run October 7 - during regular school hours!
|
What is Sprinting for the Stars? Students will ask family, friends, and neighbors to sponsor them by either donating a flat amount or a dollar amount per lap. Students will run/walk as many laps as possible around a 1/8th mile track. When is Sprinting for the Stars? The Sprint takes place on Friday, October 7th on the Lenski field during the regular school day. Who gets to participate? Everyone! All students can run and any one else can volunteer! Pledge sheets will be sent home with students after a Pep Rally on September 23! Where will the money go? Towards playground improvements! And of course, it will also go toward the staffing budget to significantly increase Lenski's ability to provide specialist teachers who supplement the classroom experience for ALL of our students with differentiated, small group learning. What percentage of the donations will go toward Lenski? 100% of all donations go to Lenski. This fundraiser is replacing the bi-annual auction that Lenski would normally hold this year, so we hope the students are motivated to run! What do the students gain from this experience? A fun race day, an emphasis on healthy lifestyle through exercise, and a chance to earn prizes by reaching fundraising goals with pledges!
|
Run Club Starting Soon! Can You Volunteer? September 12 - October 24
|
If you love exercise, fun & prizes, meet your friends on Lenski's soccer field during lunch recesses every Monday from September 12th until October 24th.
It's a great way to train for the New Lenski Student Fund Run - Sprinting for the Stars (October 7th) - and the Littleton Stride (October 30).
Remember comfortable shoes, water bottles, and a great attitude! Membership is open (and free) to all Lenski students. Parent participation is welcomed; run with your kids or volunteer to assist here.

Online Student Directory for Lenski - Enter Your Data NOW!!
|
Lenski will once again be using a paperless format for our student directory, managed by DirectorySpot. You will be able to access the directory either online or through a free app that is available for download to your Smartphone, making the directory accessible from anywhere!
In order for you to have access to this directory, we NEED your contact information. All data is deleted from the previous year to prevent data from students who are no longer at our school from lingering in the directory, so even if you did this last year, you must do it AGAIN! If you do not enter your information, not only will other parents not be able to find you in the directory, but you will not have access to look up others' information either!
Our directory is more useful when everybody is in it! This information is needed when setting up playdates, getting together for school projects, and sending birthday party invitations.
The deadline for collecting the information is September 5, 2016. . . but . . .
. . . it's so quick and easy, that you might as well get it done RIGHT NOW before you forget! Click HERE now!
If you are unable to access this online form, and would like your information included, please contact Meredith McKinnon. If you would like information on the security features of DirectorySpot, please feel free to visit the DirectorySpot website.
*Please note that by completing this form, you are giving Lenski Elementary permission to include your family contact information in our online directory.

Spring Blood Drive - Please Help A Child In Need! September 19, 8:30 a.m.
|
On Monday, September 19th, Lenski will host its Fall Blood Drive to benefit Children's Hospital from 8:30 am to 1:40 pm. The blood donation process takes about 30 to 45 minutes total, from arrival, paperwork, a brief interview to the actual blood draw. Donors should have something to eat and hydrate beforehand. We will have snacks available after your donation. Please know that 30 minutes of your time could mean a lifetime to a child in need!
If you would like to donate blood, please click here. If you would like to donate snacks, please click here.
Children's Hospital's guidelines for blood donors are as follows:
- Are in good health
- Have not donated blood in the last 56 days
- Are symptom free of a cold or flu
- Are at least 18 years of age, or 17 with written parental consent

Thank you for supporting this great cause!

Literacy Volunteers Needed!
|
We are in need of additional literacy volunteers. These volunteers may read with the younger children in small groups, or work one on one with the older kids. Lenski's dedicated literacy volunteers give the students more reading time with adults and allow our great staff to spend more time working with our kids. This is a daytime volunteer opportunity which allows for shifts of one hour; once a week, every other week or once a month...whatever time you have to share!
If you are interested, please contact Heather Mantel. Thank you!

Become a Lenski Room Parent!
|
Being a room parent is a GREAT way to be involved in your child's classroom with minimal commitment of in-class volunteer time. Much of the planning and coordination can happen on your own time as your schedule permits. A room parent's responsibilities include planning the fall festival party, coordinating optional teacher gifts before winter break and at year-end, and assisting the PTO with teacher appreciation week in the spring. Whether you are a first time room parent or a veteran room parent, we need your help and would love for you to be involved this year!
More details on each of these activities will be shared with the selected room parents at the room parent orientation meeting in September. There will be two room parents for each classroom so you can share the fun (and the responsibility) with another parent in your class! If you're interested in being a room parent for this year, please sign-up here by September 1st.

Lenski Traffic Procedures for Morning Drop Off
|
You may have noticed an increased presence of volunteers and staff at Lenski while dropping students off in the circle drive in the morning. In an effort to keep children safe when coming to school please keep in mind the following in support of these efforts:
- Drop off in a single file lane
- When loading and unloading, be sure to pull over to the right drop off lane and stay in a single drop-off lane to ensure students are not crossing in front of other vehicles. Do not park anywhere on the left side of the circle drive.
- Do not pull up next to another vehicle to drop off.
- Your child may get out of the car on the right anywhere along the fence and head into school.
- After your child has exited the car, you are welcome to safely pull around the car in front of you to slowly and cautiously exit the parking lot.
- As you are exiting, please keep in mind that there is a crosswalk where children may be crossing to enter the school. STOP to check for any pedestrian before you proceed.
- If you are dropping your child on a day when they have a large project or anything that requires you to assist them, we ask that you park in the PARKING LOT to help your child and then they can use the crosswalk to go into school.
- There is no drop off beyond the crosswalk. Beyond the cross-walk is designated for BUSES ONLY.
Please use the guidelines to expedite the drop off process and help to keep children safe during the morning drop off. We appreciate your support.
Sincerely,
Barbara DeSpain, Principal Lenski Office Staff
