Teacher Appreciation Week - Hollywood Style! Sign Up to Donate Breakfast or Lunch! May 2 - 6
|
As the school year approaches its end let's all recognize and thank the faculty and staff for all their hard work, time and effort! This year, we have chosen a Hollywood theme. We have a lot of fun activities set for the week but would welcome any and all help on Tuesday and Thursday in particular.
On Tuesday, May 3rd, the theme is "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and, as the title implies, we will be providing breakfast for the faculty and staff. If you would be interested in providing an item(s) for breakfast please click here.
Thursday's theme is Three Amigos and since it happens to fall on Cinco de Mayo, we are going to provide a Mexican Fiesta for the faculty and staff on Thursday, May 5th. To sign up to bring an item(s) for the luncheon, please click here.
Thank you so much for all your help in making our teachers feel appreciated!

Meet Rene Meale, PTO Field Day Coordinator
|
Are you ready for some Field Day Fun???? I sure hope so! On your mark...get set...go!
HI! My name is Rene Meale and I am the Lenski Field Day Coordinator this year. It is my second year helping out with this super fun event. I feel so very fortunate to get to work with such a great school community in order to make it so successful. Coach Wilson and I have been working hard and have some really great games and sporty plans for this annual fun packed celebration. Be sure to check out the many opportunities to lend a hand this May 9th and May 11th. The more, the merrier, right?
In addition to Field Day, I have enjoyed volunteering in the classroom and other Lenski activities over the past 5 years. I have been a room parent each year for at least one of my boys' classrooms since they started Kindergarten. This year, I am the room parent for Mrs. Jones as my son, Matteo, is in her 4th grade class. My other son, Ryder, is in third grade and I love helping in Mrs. Sieck's room any chance I can get. When I am not in the classroom, you can find me in the Library on Friday afternoons helping out the fabulous Lenski librarians and the kiddos who come in each week to check out books. I am also in charge of school swag, so you may also find me selling Lenski Spirit Wear at our school events such as Movie night, Bingo Night, and any other large group gathering at the school. Helping at Lenski is part of my family for sure. My husband, David, is an active member on the Lenski Technology Board and my mom even supports Lenski by taking her turn as a library assistant on Thursdays. Volunteering at Lenski is such an awesome experience. I love that I get to be involved with the children, the teachers, the staff, and the families. It is a privilege to be part of such a wonderful school and such an active school community.
I hope to meet more of you in the years to come and perhaps even during field day this May. So until then...Go Lenski!

Library Volunteers Needed for Next Year!
|
Would you be interested in volunteering in the library next year? These volunteers help check materials in and out, shelve book and assist the library staff with special projects. Lenski's dedicated library volunteers allow our great staff to spend more time working with the students. Shifts are either from 9am to 12pm or from 1pm - 3:30pm, and most shifts would be twice a month. We try and schedule you when your child's class is in library - it is a fun way to see them and their classmates. If you are interested, please contact Lisanna Parkhurst . Thank you!

A Quick Review On Logging Volunteer Hours
|
Thank you Volunteers!! If you volunteer at Lenski thank you so much for your time. It makes a big difference in our school.
We started using Google Forms for signing in this year and it is very easy and quick. Did you know that if you are signing in on the paper sheets in the office that another volunteer has to manually calculate your time and add it to the report we send into the district? It would be greatly appreciated if you could please use the computer for all volunteer sign-in.
Thank you for volunteering your time at Lenski! Questions? Please contact Katie Smith. |

The Value of School Gardens: Gardens provide experiential learning that ties into existing curriculum subjects such as chemistry, biology, math, social studies, history and English. Gardening brings these subjects to life, especially science, and helps students discover how they fit together. (Credit: Nutrients for Life Foundation) About the Lenski Learning Garden (Initiated by 5th Grade Girl Scout Troop #850, to earn their Bronze Award): A group of 5th graders are Girl Scouts that want to make a difference at school and leave a legacy. They are working toward achieving the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can earn - the Bronze Award. (This is comparable to the Eagle Project/Award for Boy Scouts, at this age level.) To earn this award, they are creating a project based on their observations of a local issue. For their project, with Dr. DeSpainʻs approval, the girls have chosen to create a school veggie/food garden, the Lenski Learning Garden. The girls are taking huge strides toward setting up an initial framework for an important teaching asset for the Lenski community... that can be built upon in the future by others, and ideally sustained by the framework they create.

Red Cross Community Emergency Preparedness Evening May 4th, 6:00 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.

Littleton Public Schools
Red Cross Community Emergency Preparedness Evening
May 4th, 2016
Ames Training Facility
7300 S. Clermont Drive
Centennial, Colorado
Please join us for snacks, beverages and a fun evening about learning how to protect your family community in an emergency. The Denver Chapter of the American Red Cross will be offering the following educational opportunities for the Littleton Public Schools parents, students and community.
For students in grades 3-5
Two classes will be offered on May 4, 2016: 6:00pm-7:00pm and 7:15pm-8:15pm.
The Pillowcase Project is a preparedness education program for children in grades 3 - 5, which teaches students about personal and family preparedness, local hazards, and basic coping skills. Generally given as a 60 minute presentation by Red Cross volunteers, the program leads students through a "learn, practice, share" framework to engage them in disaster preparedness. Students receive a sturdy pillowcase upon completion of the program in which they are encouraged to build their personal emergency supplies kit. Presentations are customized to focus on a hazard that is important and relevant to the local community.
The New Orleans chapter originally developed the project after Hurricane Katrina. The program, currently sponsored by Disney, was standardized and updated in 2013 and pilot tested in several Red Cross regions. The Pillowcase Project has now been expanded to include 60 Red Cross regions implementing the pilot in 2014, covering most states in the U.S. and in Puerto Rico. The Global Disaster Preparedness Center is also working with Disney support to expand the program internationally in 2014, pilot testing international implementation in 6 countries.
For older students, parents and community members
Be Red Cross Ready
Two classes will be offered on May 4, 2016: 6:00pm-7:00pm and 7:15pm-8:15pm
It's important to prepare for possible disasters and other emergencies. Natural and human caused disasters can strike suddenly, at any time and anywhere. Learn measures and actions that can be helpful to deal with emergencies that may arise. Red Cross professionals will be providing the presentation that will help the attendees be prepared.
For Kindergarten-2nd grade students
Junior First Aid
Two classes will be offered on May 4, 2016: 6:00pm-7:00pm and 7:15pm-8:15pm
It can be scary if someone is hurt or sick especially when an emergency arises. This course will help K-2nd graders on how to stay calm and help people when an emergency arises. Attendees will learn:
Learn the first steps to take in an emergency
How to talk to emergency responders
