Meet Dane Elliott, Technology Committee
|
I have been involved with the Lenski Technology Committee since my children, Reed and Larkin, were in Kindergarten. They are now in fourth grade. My wife, Heidi, is also involved with Lenski, as she organized the auction last year. Our family values Lenski's high-quality education, which is enhanced with the incorporation of technology into the learning process.
The Lenski Technology Committee is dedicated to raising awareness and resources to place key technology into the classroom. Over the last year, they funded additional Chromebooks and just recently sponsored the Hour of Code for all first through fifth graders.
I may be somewhat biased, but I see technology in the classroom and STEM in general as critical for our kids' future success, whether students pursue STEM education or use technology in other areas of interest. For my background, I currently work as a data scientist, using math and statistics along with computer programming to tackle issues in online advertising. I've also worked in several technology startups and as an engineer for NASA and in aerospace, using my BS and MS in engineering and robotics (Stanford) as well as my MBA (UCLA) to solve problems.

Traffic Procedures for Morning Drop Off
|
You may have noticed an increased presence of volunteers and staff at Lenski while dropping students off in the circle drive in the morning. In an effort to keep children safe when coming to school please keep in mind the following in support of these efforts:
-
Drop off in a single file lane - When loading and unloading, be sure to pull over to the right drop off lane and stay in a single drop-off lane to ensure students are not crossing in front of other vehicles. Do not park anywhere on the left side of the circle drive.
- Do not pull up next to another vehicle to drop off.
- Your child may get out of the car on the right anywhere along the fence and head into school.
- After your child has exited the car, you are welcome to safely pull around the car in front of you to slowly and cautiously exit the parking lot.
- As you are exiting, please keep in mind that there is a crosswalk where children may be crossing to enter the school. STOP to check for any pedestrian before you proceed.
- If you are dropping your child on a day when they have a large project or anything that requires you to assist them, we ask that you park in the PARKING LOT to help your child and then they can use the crosswalk to go into school.
- There is no drop off beyond the crosswalk. Beyond the cross-walk is designated for BUSES ONLY.
Please use the guidelines to expedite the drop off process and help to keep children safe during the morning drop off. We appreciate your support.
Sincerely,
Barbara DeSpain, Principal Lenski Office Staff

Volunteers Needed at Morning Drop Off to Help Keep Our Kids Safe!
|
The morning drop off at Lenski is a busy time and it is so important that our children stay safe walking into school every morning. Please help us provide volunteers to monitor the morning drop off circle! Sign up here to volunteer to monitor the drop off circle from 8:45 to 9:10. Just one parent helping each morning can help expedite drop-offs so that traffic keeps moving and the cross walks stay clear with ample visibility for children crossing. We appreciate all of you pitching in to accomplish our common goal!!
Sincerely,
|
Bingo Was A Successful Fundraiser!!
|
THANK YOU once again Lenski Community! We had a fun and successful bingo night on February 19th with the Lenski families, staff and teachers all coming together for a night of fun and fund raising. Dr. DeSpain announced bingo for our first game, we enjoyed a competitive live auction for an iPad Mini donated by Volume 9, and surprised winners for the drawing packages. During all this fun, we raised over $5,000 for the Lenski PTO which supports Lenski teacher staffing so that our school can continue to provide the small group learning opportunities that help to make our school great!! Thank you to all the families, staff and teachers who generously volunteered their time and/or provided tasty donations to make our evening successful. We could not have done it without you! |
The Box Top program is divided into 2 periods:
November 2nd - March 1st and March 2nd - November 1st. After each period, Lois Lenski receives a check for the total box tops submitted during that period. Lenski just received a check for $1,667 for the period March 2, 2015 - November 1, 2015. This is OUTSTANDING! Box tops have just been sent to Box Tops for Education for the period November 2, 2015 - March 2, 2016. A check should be coming to the school soon. The funds have been used to purchase the "wiggle" stools that are in the library and in your classroom.
Watch for one more Box Top Contest starting March 28th. Keep saving those Box Tops!
