Meet Jan McElhiney, Street Smarts Coordinator

Hello, my name is Jan McElhiney.  I have two children, Keira, a second grader at Lenski, and Mackenzie, a sixth grader at Powell Middle School.  My husband Ben and I moved to our home seven and a half years ago, in part because of the excellent schools our children would be able to attend.  We have never regretted the decision to make Lenski our children's elementary school.  Lenski is a fabulous community with excellent volunteer participation from the parents as well as a fabulous staff.  Because of this I have tried to always help whenever possible.  I have been a room parent, volunteered in the classroom, and donated to all of the wonderful community events.  Additionally, several years ago I discovered the Street Smarts program and I have run that program ever since.  This program allows parents to financially benefit Lenski without spending additional money.  The program is simple.   All you have to do is save all receipts from any purchase from a Streets at SouthGlenn merchant, including the strip mall portions (where Staples, Qdoba and Noodles are located) and send them in to Lenski with your children in a envelope marked Streets at SouthGlenn receipts.  Additional opportunities exist throughout the year to win additional points by attending specific events.  Schools then accumulate points based on the amounts of purchases and attendance at these events and then are awarded money based upon ranking.  Lenski has finished fifth out of 20 local schools the past few years.  Lenski takes the proceeds from this competition and turns them into raffle prizes to earn even more money for our school.  Stop by the Tree Lighting this Friday night, see Santa and sign in at the concierge desk to earn more points for our school!
