Blood Drive - Sign Up to Donate!
September 18
On Friday, September 18th, Lenski will host its Fall Blood Drive to benefit Children's Hospital from 9am to 1pm.  The blood donation process takes about 30 to 45 minutes total, from arrival, paperwork, a brief interview to the actual blood draw.  Donors should have something to eat and hydrate beforehand.  We will have snacks available after your donation.  Please know that 30 minutes of your time could mean a lifetime to a child in need!

If you would like to donate blood, please click here.  If you would like to donate snacks, please click here.   If you cannot participate in this blood drive, but you want to support Children's Hospital, please click here  to find out more.

Meet Amy Dawson, PTO Co-President

Hello!  My name is Amy Dawson and I'm excited to be one of your PTO Presidents for the 2015-2016 school year.  My husband Steve and I have two girls at Lenski: Maddie in 5th grade and Brooke in 1st.  We have been at Lenski since Maddie was in kindergarten and I have enjoyed several volunteering positions in those years, including: being a room parent, coordinating lunch on the lawn, and as the classroom enrichment lead for the past two years.  I have to admit that I was a little intimidated taking on the role of Co-PTO President, but so far it has been a great experience and so much fun getting to know all of the amazing volunteers.  If you haven't had the opportunity to volunteer yet, it is a great way to get to know the teachers, staff and other parents in the Lenski community.  We consider ourselves very lucky to call Lenski home and I am looking forward to a wonderful year ahead!

Online Directory For Lenski - Enter Your Data Now!
For the second year, Lenski will be using a paperless format for our student directory!  You can access the directory either online or through a free app that is available for download to your Smartphone, making the directory accessible anytime and "on the go!"

To gather the information needed for our directory, an  online form has been made available on the Lenski website.  You can click through this email here, or on the Lenski home page, simply find the link in the newsfeed, click on it, follow the directions and complete the form.  DirectorySpot, considered safe and secure, will collect the information and put together our online directory. If you would like more information on the security features, please feel free to visit www.directoryspot.net and click on the "Why use us" tab.

The deadline for collecting the information is October 16, 2015.

*Please note that by completing this form,  you are giving Lenski Elementary permission to include your family contact information in our online directory.

If you are unable to access this online form, and would like your information included, please feel free to stop by the office and pick up a paper form to complete.  For questions, please contact Lenski PTO at lenskipto@gmail.com

     bicycling
Bicycling in PE Class Next Week!  Parent Help Requested.
WHEN? Coach Wilson will be teaching a lesson on bike riding and safety for grades 1-5 during the weeks of Aug. 31- Sept. 4 and Sept. 7-11.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING? Students do not need to have any previous bike riding experience and helmets and bikes will be provided.  However, if your child would like to use their own bike and helmet, they are welcome to bring it to class.  Bikes and helmets can be stored in the school bike rack until class time when the students will be able to walk over and retrieve them.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS RELUCTANT? Please know that last year we had several very anxious students who ended up really doing well in this lesson that was developed by Bicycle Colorado. Students learn using the "Strider" bike method and everyone is able to try even if they don't yet know how to ride a bike. The week before we begin biking outside on the playground, I will cover bicycle safety in class.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS? In the case of inclement weather the bike lesson will either be postponed or moved indoors depending on the circumstances. As bad weather can move in with little notice, I may or may not have a chance to notify you if we have a last minute change of plans.  This year I have added an extra week to the unit to make sure everyone gets at least one day with the bikes.

CAN YOU HELP? Because this lesson has three very different stations (new/non riders, rider challenge course and alternate activity for the students waiting for a bike) it is very helpful if I have parent assistants during classes. If you are able to help with your child's class (or any others that day) I would appreciate it!  I especially need help with the younger students so please consider helping in the younger grades, even if your student is not in that grade. The PE schedule is noted in the volunteer sign-up which can be found here.

WHY SHOULD I HELP? I sure hope you can join me for this very amazing unit; last year we had quite a few students that learned how to ride a bike in that one short lesson. Bike riding is a wonderful lifelong fitness activity! It's so fun to give a child that lifetime gift! I have found working as a team is the most effective way to give that gift.

Questions or concerns?  Please contact Coach Wilson.
       literacy
Literacy Volunteers Needed!
We are in need of additional literacy volunteers. These volunteers may read with the younger children in small groups, or work one on one with the older kids. Lenski's dedicated literacy volunteers give the students more reading time with adults and allow our great staff to spend more time working with our kids. This is a daytime volunteer opportunity which allows for shifts of one hour; once a week, every other week or once a month...whatever time you have to share!

If you are interested, please contact Heather Mantel . Thank you!
      roomparent
Room Parent Sign-Up Now Available!
Being a room parent is a GREAT way to be involved in your child's classroom with minimal commitment of in-class volunteer time. Much of the planning and coordination can happen on your own time as your schedule permits. A room parent's responsibilities include planning the fall festival party (held on the afternoon of Oct. 30th), coordinating optional teacher gifts before winter break and at year-end, and assisting the PTO with teacher appreciation week in the spring.

More details on each of these activities will be shared with the selected room parents at the room parent orientation meeting in September. There will be two room parents for each classroom so you can share in the fun (and the responsibility) with another parent in your class!  If you're interested in being a room parent for this year, please click here and sign up prior to September 1st.

If you have any additional questions, please reach out to Stephanie Wilcox.
