Love from Lenski and Children's Book Drive. Volunteers Needed!! February 10 and February 11 from 11:00 am - 1:30 pm
|
Every year, during the Valentine's Day holiday, our thoughtful Lenski students take time during their lunch hour to write out messages of encouragement to individuals in the community who could use some kind wishes and "Cheer". This year, these special Valentines will be delivered to Someren Glen (formerly the Johnson Center) located directly across Arapahoe Road from our school. The facility offers care to seniors ranging from Assisted Living to Hospice Care. There are over 500 members of the Someren Glen community and we would like to ensure that all of these special individuals receive a Valentine from a Lenski student. How can you help? Encourage your student to participate in the lunch hour activity, send in donated stickers to decorate the Valentines (ideally not individually paper backed ones!) or click here to volunteer to help! We will be decorating the Valentine's on Tuesday February 10th and Wednesday February 11th from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the Lenski cafeteria.
This year, in conjunction with warming the hearts in our community, we will also be hosting a gently-used children's book drive. Please have your students bring in gently used children's books between February 1st and February 11th and place them in the boxes located in Lenski's front lobby. The donated items will be taken to the Village North Preschool in downtown Littleton. It is part of Littleton Public Schools and serves children and families in our district. The Village North Preschool is also in need of gently used small stuffed animals (to be used as reading buddies) and school supplies.

The USS Carl Vinson Thanks You for our "Thanking Our Troops" Campaign!
|
Dear Lenski,
Thank you so much for the care packages that you sent to my division! You brought a part of home to all of us while we are all very far from home. It really means a lot to all of us to receive your support, and
it was extra special for me to see it come from where I grew up.
To answer some of your questions, the USS Carl Vinson is an aircraft carrier and it is over 1000 feet long. That is more than three football fields! We have a crew of over 5000 people. That includes all different types of jobs: pilots, maintenance crew, radar operators, cooks, and barbers. Can you imagine trying to feed 5000 people three times a day? The lines for food are very long.
It is hard being away from home, but I am proud to be out here serving my country. Hearing your support and encouragement makes it all worth it.
Sincerely,
Petty Officer Robert Jack

I am IS2(SW) Elmer Lino onboard the USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) currently operating in the Arabian Gulf supporting Operation Inherent Resolve. We received your packages a few days ago and I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. The packages that were put together were simply AMAZING!!
The best way I can explain the reaction on the face of my sailors (Senior and Junior Sailors) was the face a kids make when they open a gift on Christmas morning. Mail call onboard the ship happens about once
a week when we receive supplies, but everyone is anxious to see if they received something (mail call for us is like Christmas morning). Some of the junior guys that aren't married might receive an occasional package from family or friends.
I would like to express my appreciation and the appreciation of my shipmates to team "Thanking the Troops" for taking time out of your busy day to think about us and put together these packages. These packages meant the world to us and we can't thank you enough.
I have included a photo that the USS CARL VINSON took during a recent exercise with the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON. I hope you all enjoy them.
Thank you.
