Thanking Our Troops - Ends Tomorrow! Your Support is Appreciated.
|
Each year, in celebration of Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving, Lenski adopts an American soldier for the holidays. This year, we are adopting two soldiers
with close connections to our school.
 | Petty Officer Rob Jack
|
The first is Petty Officer Rob Jack. He is Jan Jack's son, and he is stationed on a Naval aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf. We will be supporting Petty Officer Jack and the 15 soldiers in his Division.
 | Captain Lionel Garcia
|
The second is Captain Lionel Garcia. He is Courtney Burrall's fiancé, and he is stationed at Camp Marmal in Afghanistan. We will be supporting Captain Garcia and the 10 soldiers in his unit.
During this campaign, students will have the opportunity to showcase Lenski's Superstar spirit by writing letters thanking these soldiers for their service to our country. To create a letter, please click here for a template. Feel free to include artwork! Please ensure that your thank you message is positive.
We are also asking for care package donations to send to our soldiers. Click here for a complete list of these items. Letters and care packages will be shipped to the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan in time for the holidays!

Meet Lisa Zook, Thanking Our Troops Coordinator
|
My name is Lisa Zook. I am a retired lawyer, and a stay at home mom. My husband Brian is an accountant. We have two boys, and they are both at Lois Lenski. Sam is a third grader in Mrs. Sieck's class. Tyler is a second grader in Mrs. Kurtenbach's class. Our family has been at Lenski since 2011, when Sam entered Kindergarten. Since that time, the Lenski campus has grown to feel like home, and the staff and student body has come to feel like family.
This year, I am room parent for Mrs. Kurtenbach. I am also in charge of two community service projects for Lenski, both of which are rewarding in their own way. The first is the Blood Drive for Children's Hospital that happens in the Fall and the Spring. Each semester, the blood drive results in approximately 20 donations of useable blood. According to Children's Hospital, each donation can save the lives of three children. The second community service project is the Thanking our Troops campaign that is in progress now. During last year's Thanking our Troops campaign, we mailed 24 large care package boxes to 15 soldiers in Afghanistan. You can see pictures of the soldiers enjoying their letters and gifts, they are posted in the front lobby.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have a healthy, happy family and an exceptional learning environment for my children. By volunteering with Lenski's Community Service Outreach team, I feel that I am able to share some of my good fortune with others.

Lenski Bi-Annual Fundraising Dinner and Auction - Save the Date Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Sheraton Denver Tech Center
|
It Starts at Lenski is about our children. As parents, we don't know what will spark their interest. We don't know what their passions will be. We don't know what careers they will have. But we do know that we must expose them to many different things and provide them every opportunity to discover their passions. We know it starts at Lenski!
It Starts at Lenski is the bi-annual fundraising dinner and auction for Lenski and is organized entirely by volunteer parents. The funds raised at the event go directly to teacher salaries, supporting the many teacher specialists that make Lenski such an outstanding school. The event will host over 300 attendees and feature a seated dinner, silent auction, live auction and entertainment.
Please put the date in your calendar NOW and plan to join us for a night among the stars!

LPS Nutrition Services Receives Award! |
Congratulations to Carol Van De Weghe and LPS Nutrition Services who were recently awarded the 2014 Carrot Award by LiveWell Colorado. LPS was recognized with a $500 award for demonstrating the vision and passion necessary to make scratch cooking a sustainable change in our school kitchens. Their commitment, perseverance, and creative ideas were recognized as being exemplary and instrumental in the success of our continued school food transformation. LPS has worked hand-in-hand with The LiveWell@School Food Initiative to enhance our school nutrition program. Enhancements include:
- Serving meals prepared with fresher, healthier ingredients
- Making many of our sauces from scratch
- Trying new homemade entrees, including our lasagna, which has become popular among our students and staff
- Eliminating high-fat, sugar, and sodium condiments
- Incorporating our daily harvest bar, which offers fresh produce daily to all children participating in our program.
This week, Carol, along with other LPS staff will participate in a cook-off meal preparation with three other districts to compete for a $1,000 award from LiveWell Colorado. Great job Lenski Kitchen Nutrition Services Staff!

Thank You For All Your Support of the Annual Giving Campaign
|
On behalf of everyone on the Lenski PTO, thank you for your support of the Annual Giving Campaign!
We have once again proven that our community is committed and proud to be a top caliber school! Thanks to your generosity, the Lenski Annual Giving once again was a very successful campaign! Together we raised nearly $52,000! In addition to the money already collected, we are expecting a total of nearly $6,000 in monthly donations and another $6,000 in corporate matches throughout the end of the school year, bringing our expected total to almost $65,000, which is just short of our $70,000 goal!
We are thrilled with the success of the campaign and are so grateful for the support of people like you! Please remember that 100% of your donation is tax deductible, so save your receipts.
A heartfelt thank you for your dedication and investment to the education of your children! Please feel free to contact me with any specific questions you may have in regards to this years campaign.
Sincerely,
Mindy Wilson
Campaign Chair
