What Are Students Saying about the MET Courses?
"Thank you so much for making C/S, T/S and Ribs so much easier for me to understand. All other manual courses have just been too complicated in the way they were taught. I just appreciate so much that I "get it now!"

PT tip of the month
Okay, I'll admit it - the teaching schedule for April and May has been quite hectic especially since it involves back and forth from the west and east coasts. So . . . this month in honor of Earth Day, we are going to do a "green" Clinical Pearl and recycle an article I wrote regarding thoracic outlet syndrome that was published in 2011 that will give you some insight into improving patient outcomes using MET.

Questions from the Mail Room
|
Q: Tom, I am treating a 17 yr. old male that was prescribed a 3/4 in. heel lift from his chiro for his low back SI pain and LLD. What do you think about heel lifts for this age group?
Jennifer, PT
A: Hi Jennifer, Actual structural leg length is very rare at any age in my experience of 34 years. And, it is difficult to accurately measure without x-ray measurement of the bones. The overwhelming majority of the supposed leg length difference is due to pelvic / acetabular asymmetry. Without correcting for those pelvic, sacral and lumbar asymmetries first I would be very wary of quick fixes with heel wedges.

"Tom Ockler P.T. has produced a teaching DVD for the Osteopathic originated Muscle Energy Technique (MET) that is clearly articulated, elegantly demonstrated, and has what most teaching DVDs overlook ... repetition of the basic concepts enough times that the viewer has the time, space, and opportunity to lock in the concepts in preview to taking an actual hands-on course or, for a former student, the same, to reflect on their kinesthetic experience ... adding a depth of cognitive understanding with a review of the positional set-ups and language that is unique to this exquisite approach to somatic dysfunction. This DVD is the best that I have seen in my 25 years of teaching this approach to dedicated manual therapy practitioners and using MET within my clinical practice. His teaching integrates humor, humanity, and expertise in his delivery. I will be encouraging my students to purchase this DVD series."

Our Seminars

For those of you who have taken Muscle Energy courses before and are still struggling... Or if you have never taken a Muscle Energy course because you heard it was too hard... These are the courses for you.
Muscle Energy Technique is one of the most effective and valuable manual techniques for the identification and correction of somatic asymmetry and hypomobility. These techniques can be used immediately to find and correct the causes of all types of pain. These are not cover up procedures, but rather techniques that cure the problem with dramatic results.
Unlike manipulative therapies, which presume joints are stuck out of place by some physiologic glue, the beauty of Muscle Energy is that it works through an evidence-based neuro physiologic principle. And that is the joints are held out of place by muscles that have too much tone.
In his 34 years of clinical practice, Tom Ockler P.T. has had extensive teaching experience throughout the United States, Canada, England and Australia.
As a teacher, Tom has a unique style of injecting humor into complicated subjects. He has developed teaching methods that explain very complicated subjects in easily understandable formats. His five teaching manuals have been hailed by students as the "most user-friendly and useful Muscle Energy manuals ever."
Attend one of our seminars and don't miss this magnificent educational opportunity!
