Hosting an MET course of your own can be a big advantage in several ways:
It is a cost effective way to satisfy CEU requirements for the company.
You save thousands of dollars on your CEU expeditures.
You make a nice profit for your clinic - usually $2000-$3000.
It's easier than you think.

PT tip of the month
Getting Emotional Again . . .
Last Holiday season I presented an "emotional" Clinical Pearl concerning a wonderful technique to help your patients heal at the very core of their pain. It is called EFT. This year I revisit this Clinical Pearl with some great bits of news.
#1 As of May of 2012, EFT has met level 12 approval for evidence based by the American Psychological Association (APA). Links to this information can be found on the research page of www.eftuniverse.com.
#2 What is even more exciting is this technique . . .

Questions from the Mail Room
|
Q: Hi Tom, I attended you're class and have a couple of questions. I know you said the side that moves the most on Standing Forward Bend Test is hypomobile and the side that moves the least on the stork test is hypomobile. I am finding the same side consistently moves up on both tests on people. Wouldn't it be opposite sides moving up more if each test tells the opposite. How can the right side be the side that moves the most on both tests? Also, is it possible to find one side that is hypomobile and still not have anything to treat? When I practiced on my husband, I found a hypomobile side, but he was lined up perfectly in every other way. All of the treatments looked to me like they were for realigning bones out of place and he didn't have any.
Chris B., LMT
A: Hi Chris, Great questions. First of all, it is entirely possible that both sides of the pelvis have some degree of asymmetry and hypo-mobility so it's not unreasonable to get positives on each side. Secondly, If you say both sides move up . . . think about it. The stork test positive sign is the PSIS that does not move or moves only very slightly downward (not upward) compared to the opposite side. So it may be that the side that moves downward is making you think that the opposite side is moving upward. We would not expect the leg stance side to move at all since you are standing on it. If it appears to be moving upward, I suggest you are just seeing the other side (knee into the chest side) move downward as it should. Lastly, MET looks for asymmetry and hypomobility so when there is no asymmetry but still hypomobility, use ligament recoils on sacro-tuberous, sacro-spinous, and ilio-lumbar to see if you can restore mobility.

"Thanks for the great information and dvd's you have. I've been using MET for several years and recently have changed over to your system (some changes from other seminars I've taken) and yours is so much more effective. I work with the US Soccer Federation and recently helped the women's under 20 national team win the world cup in Japan. I've been traveling with them for over a year and getting off the plane for long rides = my appointments and treatment table is filled up."

Our Seminars

For those of you who have taken Muscle Energy courses before and are still struggling... Or if you have never taken a Muscle Energy course because you heard it was too hard... These are the courses for you.
Muscle Energy Technique is one of the most effective and valuable manual techniques for the identification and correction of somatic asymmetry and hypomobility. These techniques can be used immediately to find and correct the causes of all types of pain. These are not cover up procedures, but rather techniques that cure the problem with dramatic results.
Unlike manipulative therapies, which presume joints are stuck out of place by some physiologic glue, the beauty of Muscle Energy is that it works through an evidence-based neuro physiologic principle. And that is the joints are held out of place by muscles that have too much tone.
In his 34 years of clinical practice, Tom Ockler P.T. has had extensive teaching experience throughout the United States, Canada, England and Australia.
As a teacher, Tom has earned the nickname "The Patch Adams of Physical Therapy" due to his unique style of injecting humor into complicated subjects. He has developed teaching methods that explain very complicated subjects in easily understandable formats. His five teaching manuals have been hailed by students as the "most user-friendly and useful Muscle Energy manuals ever."
Attend one of our seminars and don't miss this magnificent educational opportunity!
