There's so much to do

For a University in a small Western Maryland town, you can't say there's nothing to do in Frostburg, just look at the eclectic mix of events coming up this week.

Breathing Love into Our Campus Community kicks off the week with the transformation work of the Holistic Life Foundation from Baltimore, MD who will provide the opportunity to come together as a campus community to discuss diversity, equity and inclusion.

Interview with Zuzu African Acrobats
Interview with Zuzu African Acrobats
If you are really brave, try something new this Thursday. Students, have you purchased your $3 tickets for the jaw-dropping, high-energy, fast paced Zuzu African Acrobats hailing from Mombasa, Kenya? Don't miss this pyramid building, limbo, contortion, tumbling and balancing act that was featured on America's Got Talent, The Late Show with David Letterman and three Super Bowls.

On Friday evening, celebrate Earth Day by attending the screening of Frostburg State's award-winning documentary "The Vision Within, part of a documentary series that follows the profound international experiences of a group of Frostburg State students as they travel deep into the heart of the Amazon rainforest to meet the Achuar people - an ancient "dream culture" living today in much the same way that they have lived for thousands of years. The screening begins at 7 PM at the Palace Theatre on Main Street. A moderated panel discussion will follow with the director and producers, students and FSU sustainability leaders. A trailer for the next documentary in the series that takes place in India, "Dharamsala," will also be shown at the screening.

Then Saturday, listen to the hot and sultry Jazz sounds of The Hot Sardines in celebration of Jazz History Month. If Jazz isn't your thing, come out for the Interfraternity Council's UFC Fight Night to watch the battle between Cormier vs. Jones.

Debut Film Screening of Frostburg State's Documentary
The Vision Within
Friday, April 22 at 7:30 PM, Doors open at 7 PM
The Palace Theatre, Main Street, Frostburg
Cost: By Donation at the Door

Screening of Frostburg State University's award-winning documentary shot in the Amazon, The Vision Within (38mins), with moderated panel discussion from the director and producers of the film, students and campus sustainability leaders.

'The Vision Within' tells the story of a group of college students who travel deep into the heart of the Amazon rainforest to meet an ancient 'dream culture' living today in much the same way that they have lived for thousands of years. As they return home from their journey they must find ways to integrate their experiences into meaningful, engaged lives in service of their own inner visions and the future of our planet. The film is an exploration of the critical role that our inner visions can play in our lives, in education, and in awakening a socially just, environmentally sustainable future.

Prepare for a playful, boisterous performance that features hot jazz and sultry standards from the 1920's, 30's and 40's. The Hot Sardines take a blustery brass lineup, layer it over a rhythm section led by a salty stride piano and tie the whole thing together with a phenomenal female vocalist. And did we mention the tap dancer?

"Simply phenomenal, crisp musicianship going hand in hand with immaculate and witty showmanship."
