This was one amazing weekend, from the pep rally and all its wonderful performances to the comedy show with Liza Treyger and Lil Duval. This week will also be a very interesting one. Tuesday, UPC will host a lecture "How to Plan a Successful Event," followed by Kappa Pi's Paint Night on Thursday and the screening of the documentary "The New Black" on Friday!

UPC brings you guidelines and tips and tricks on how to plan a successful event.
Topics include: brainstorming the right event for your organization, booking rooms and tables, recruitment, production schedules, on campus resources, professionalism and most of all how to maximize the full potential of your event.
Four UPC members travel to NACA to book talent

The National Association of Campus Activites (NACA) is a convention for college students that teaches the skills needed to be successful in programming events. Four UPC students: Laura Akindo, Megan Alvarez, Gabby Cousino, and Sweet James will be attending the NACA national conference in Buffalo, NY on October 22-25. >> Read more

Sloop Institute For Excellence
The 2016 Sloop Institute for Excellence in Leadership is rapidly approaching!  Applications are available online at Leadership and Experiential Learning Sloop InstituteOnly 40 students will be selected to attend this institute, which will be held from Friday, March 4, 2016, through Saturday, March 5, 2016. Given the numerous alumni who are planning to attend  and present over the course of the weekend, students will be given the chance to learn and be inspired by some of Frostburg's finest. Students will have the opportunity to network with other Frostburg State University organizations, as well as learn about the Leadership Competency Model, how it applies to them and how they can bring new leadership skills back their organizations within the University. The Institute will be held at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, MD. Please complete the application and return it to Clarissa Lang at the Braddock House between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM.  Applications are due no later than Friday, November 13, 2015.

The Frostburg Indian and South Asian Student Association (FISASA) would like to invite all students, faculty, and staff to join us in a pick-up cricket tournament on Friday, October 14th at 4- 6 PM. Cricket is a very popular sport in India and South Asia. It is a bat and ball game much like American baseball  or softball but played with the ball rolling on the ground. We would love to share this sport with you. It is the second most widely played sport in the world Come have some fun with the Indian/ South Asian students and learn how to play cricket with us. "The New Black"

Frostburg State University will screen "The New Black," a documentary that tells the story of how the African-American community is grappling with the gay rights issue in light of the recent same-sex marriage decision and the fight over civil rights. The show will be on Thursday, October 22, from 6-8 PM in the Gira Center Room 397. There will be parking available in the Performing Arts Center lot, and the event is free and open to the public. There will be two panelists in attendance to answer questions, Dr. Trina Redmond-Matz, Associate Professor of Psychology, and the Rev. Martha MacGill, pastor of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Cumberland.
